About The Position

The Cook prepares food for residents, guests, and employees according to menus, standard recipes, and planned events. The role includes ensuring food is prepared, seasoned, portioned, and presented appropriately, keeping the kitchen station stocked and clean, and supporting other kitchen staff as needed. The position is part-time, with hours listed as 11 a.m.–7 p.m., at Independence Village of Fishers South. The work involves standing for extended periods, communicating and interacting with others, and using kitchen appliances and work areas. Employees may occasionally travel to different locations and lift or move items weighing up to 50 pounds. The work environment has a moderate noise level and requires appropriate interaction with others.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent, or technical school.
At least three years of line cook experience and/or training.
Good communication skills.

Responsibilities

Cook and prepare food for residents, guests, and employees.
Prepare food according to planned menus and standard recipes.
Plate food according to portion guidelines and garnishing instructions.
Assist other kitchen staff as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Ensure sufficient food is prepped or prepared and communicate shortages or outages to the supervisor.
Ensure food freshness, cooking status, and proper seasoning.
Stock and clean the station for the next shift.
Follow proper food rotation policies.
Maintain a positive attitude that supports a team environment.
Promote positive public relations with residents, family members, and guests.
Respect resident rights and help maintain an atmosphere that supports residents’ privacy, dignity, well-being, and safety.
Follow safety practices, including universal precautions, established fire, safety, and disaster plans, risk management, sanitation, and security procedures.
Clean and inspect kitchen appliances and work areas to ensure cleanliness and functional operation.
Wear a uniform and name tag and maintain a professional appearance.
