About The Position

Lake Prince Woods is seeking an experienced cook to join its fine dining team at a continuing care retirement community in Suffolk, Virginia. The cook prepares meals for residents of all care levels, visitors, and team members, and learns to prepare menu items suited to the community’s different levels of care. The cook works with dining staff and participates in supervising and instructing Food Service Aides during their shifts. The role requires maintaining high standards of sanitation and food handling, understanding kitchen roles, and ensuring the accuracy and quality of work. The main dining room’s last seating is at 6:30 p.m., allowing for an early evening when scheduled for the dinner shift.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
Ability to read and follow recipes.
Ability to write, add, and subtract.
Good organizational skills and creativity.
Ability to follow oral and written instructions and accept responsibility for the accuracy and quality of work performed.
Dependability, adaptability, attention to detail, achievement orientation, independence, creativity, and tolerance for a high-stress environment.

Nice To Haves

Six months of food preparation experience in a hospital, institutional, or restaurant setting.
Experience in long-term care or health care.
ServSafe Food Protection Manager certification.

Responsibilities

Prepare food items as directed, following sanitary practices and timelines.
Follow recipes and presentation specifications.
Operate standard kitchen equipment safely and efficiently.
Clean and maintain the assigned station while practicing good safety and sanitation.
Assist with cleaning and organizing the kitchen and equipment.
Adhere to sanitation and food production codes.
Record food temperatures.
Work with dining staff to prepare meals for residents, visitors, and team members.
Participate in supervising and instructing Food Service Aides on assigned shifts.
