About The Position

Salt & Ash is seeking a passionate, precise, and team-oriented Cook to join their kitchen staff. The restaurant focuses on using quality, local ingredients to create simply prepared dishes that highlight the best of Nova Scotia. Their menu features comforting, rustic, and hearty dishes with a coastal flair, including wood-fired pizzas, grilled and smoked meats and seafood, brunch dishes, and late-night snacks. The Cook will be responsible for preparing food according to standardized recipes and menu specifications, adjusting cooking methods for customer preferences or dietary restrictions, plating dishes, and maintaining a clean work area according to health standards. They will also perform opening and closing duties, manage inventory, and collaborate with the team to ensure smooth kitchen operations. Food hygiene and safety training must be completed and kept up to date.

Requirements

  • A passion for food and a minimum of 2 years of similar work experience
  • High volume experience
  • Strong organizational skills with great attention to detail
  • A commitment to consistency, and ability to execute dishes to the highest standard of quality and presentation
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required
  • A passion for culinary arts and fine dining
  • A proven ability to plan and prioritize
  • Basic knowledge of culinary operations, a team player, a hard worker, and detail oriented
  • A flexible schedule and is available for different days and shifts
  • A Food Safe Certification

  • Culinary diploma is an asset

Responsibilities

  • Prepping food items for service
  • Preparing food according to standardized recipes and menu specifications
  • Adjusting cooking methods based on customer preferences or dietary restrictions
  • Plating dishes according to specifications
  • Maintaining a clean work area as required by provincial health standards
  • Performing assigned opening and closing duties
  • Checking inventory and making sure ingredients are available for daily use
  • Reporting low stock and helping with inventory management
  • Collaborating with the team to ensure smooth kitchen operations
  • Completing all mandatory food hygiene and safety training that must be kept up to date
  • Such other similar or related duties as may be required from time to time
