About The Position

This position is for the 2026 Summer Program Cook, with approximately 30 hours per week, Monday through Friday. Hours and days may change based on summer program sites and participation. The position is estimated to start as early as June 29, 2026, and end around August 21, 2026. The salary is $24.00 per hour. The hiring contact is David Semenza, Director of Nutrition Services. Funding is from the Nutrition Services Revolving Account.

Requirements

  • Experience in school cafeteria work including but not limited to food preparation, food service and food safety HACCP program
  • Cooking experience in fast paced, high volume school cafeteria environment
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to operate a motor vehicle in Massachusetts
  • Must have valid ServSafe certification
  • Must be available to work all days program is in session from July 7 – August 8
  • Prior experience working in USDA Summer Food Service Program required

  • Any authorized mileage driven in personal vehicle during shift will be paid at current mileage reimbursement rate

Responsibilities

  • Work preparing, delivering and serving summer meals for Fitchburg summer meals program
  • Determine daily meal production needs with input from Summer Program Coordinator
  • Work with Summer Program Coordinator to lead a team of up to 15 people each day preparing and packaging meals
  • Provide guidance as needed to Summer Helpers
  • Ensure all food safety or prepared meals and ensure the kitchen and serving area is maintained to the highest levels of cleanliness and sanitation
