About The Position

Friendship is seeking a Cook to join its Friendship Assisted Living team in Salem, Virginia. The Cook prepares daily meals for residents, staff, and visitors and monitors food handling, storage, and serving. This is a full-time position with variable shifts, including every other weekend.

The role involves preparing nutritious meals according to directions and assignments, accommodating special food requests listed on forecast sheets, and following food-safety and sanitation requirements. The Cook uses kitchen equipment and utensils safely, follows assigned cleaning schedules, and communicates meal preparation details and proposed substitutions to staff for approval. The position is physically active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, and crouching throughout the day, as well as frequently lifting or moving objects weighing more than 50 pounds.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Cook experience preferred.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, and crouch throughout the day.
• Ability to frequently lift or move objects weighing more than 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Prepare daily meals for residents, staff, and visitors.
• Monitor food handling, storage, and serving.
• Use kitchen equipment and utensils correctly and safely for food preparation, service, and cleaning.
• Follow facility policies and procedures and applicable food-safety and sanitation laws and regulations.
• Prepare quality, nutritious foods according to directions and assignments, including special foods requested on forecast sheets.
• Follow assigned cleaning schedules for equipment and areas, including walls, floors, and cooking equipment.
• Use communication sheets to tell staff which foods have been prepared and seek approval for changes or substitutions.
• Use forecasting, work production, and communication sheets.
• Check the tray line for leftovers after meals.
