About The Position

The Cook III prepares and cooks meals, plans menus, orders supplies, and maintains cleanliness in kitchen and dining areas. The position also assists with nutrition activities for staff, children, and families as requested. The role is located at the Headstart Central Kitchen #89.

Requirements

High school education or GED.
At least one year of experience in a related field.
Obtain a Food Handlers Card and CPR and first aid certification within six weeks of employment.
Ability to operate a calculator and computer.
Meet and maintain pre-employment and periodic background investigation and adjudication requirements for child care.
Ability to meet the stated physical demands, including frequently lifting and/or moving up to 25 pounds.

Responsibilities

Travel to local grocery stores to purchase items needed for weekly menus.
Submit monthly purchase orders to food vendors for bulk food-service items.
Maintain records and files for weekly submission to the Food Services Manager.
Maintain daily CACFP records of meals served and food used for inclusion in the monthly claim report.
Label and store food brought into the center, storing foodstuffs to reduce deterioration and infestation.
Monitor consumption of menu items to help plan future menus and reduce waste.
Provide monthly nutrition activities for parents at parent meetings.
Assist teachers with monthly nutrition activities for children that correspond to the unit being studied.
Cook food in quantities appropriate to the menu and number of people served.
Wash dishes and keep the work area neat and sanitized.
Clean floors, counters, tables, appliances, and other equipment according to standard practices.
Bake breads and pastries according to menus.
Serve meals and sit with classroom staff and children during mealtimes.
Order supplies and maintain records and accounts.
Train volunteers and other employees assigned to kitchen or dining areas.
Assist in the classroom as needed to meet ratio when requested by the supervisor.
Perform other duties as assigned.
