About The Position

The Cook II is a mid-level cook responsible for a variety of cooking methods and cuisines, assisting in all areas of the kitchen including prep, line, grille, and sauté. This position may work in buffet restaurants, the employee cafeteria, or high-volume banquet operations. The role requires preparing food and menu items according to standard recipes, receiving and storing food requisitions, inspecting refrigeration and dry storage for proper handling and rotation, and ensuring stations are set up, clean, and properly stored at the end of the shift. The Cook II will also be responsible for breaking down kitchen stations, returning reusable items to the main kitchen, and assisting in other hotel kitchens as needed, including banquets, buffet restaurants, a la carte restaurants, or social venues.

Requirements

  • Two years of cooking experience in a commercial kitchen is required.
  • Above average knife skills.
  • Basic Food Safety certification required within 30 days of starting position.

Nice To Haves

  • Current internal employees with less than two years of experience may be considered if they can demonstrate proficiency in the essential functions of the Cook II role through successful job performance, completion of relevant training, food safety knowledge, and satisfactory supervisory assessment.
  • Culinary school preferred.
  • Experience cooking with International cuisines preferred.
  • Experience in a kitchen with guest contact, scratch cooking, high volume highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare food and menu items according to standard recipes.
  • Receive and put away food requisitions, checking for food products quality and amount.
  • Inspect all refrigeration and dry storage for proper handling and rotation.
  • Ensure that the stations are set up for service but also clean and that all food items are properly covered and stored at the end of shift.
  • Ensure that kitchen stations and functions are properly broken down and those reusable items are returned to the main kitchen and put on proper shelf.
  • Assist in other kitchens within the hotel, as needed. This may include assisting in Banquets, buffet restaurants, a la carte restaurants, or social venues.
