About The Position

The Cook I is responsible for ensuring meals are prepared in accordance with the daily menu and maintaining quality standards in line with contract requirements. This role involves preparing food using established recipes and procedures, operating kitchen equipment, and adhering to sanitation and hygiene standards.

Requirements

  • Certificate in food handling/sanitation methods, or ServSafe certified preferred.
  • Good customer service skills.
  • Solid work ethics.
  • Demonstrated history of related Food Service experience preferably with a major institution or the military as a cook.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare meals using established recipe cards, production procedures, and systems in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Use standardized measuring cups, spoons, knives, forks, large kitchen utensils, pots, and pans.
  • Prepare food to coordinate with meal serving hours, ensuring quality, temperature, and appearance are preserved.
  • Utilize progressive cooking techniques in meal preparation.
  • Operate basic kitchen equipment such as stoves, ovens, microwaves, and refrigerators.
  • Judge the appearance of food being served and recommend changes if necessary.
  • Determine the amount and type of food and supplies required using production systems.
  • Set steam tables and serve or ensure proper serving of food.
  • Comply with established sanitation standards, personal hygiene, and health standards.
  • Observe proper food preparation and handling techniques.
  • Store food properly and safely, and date-mark items.
  • Adhere to BCI rules and regulations.
  • Comply with all HACCP standards.
