About The Position

Cook I – Pathway to Direct Hire with RIT Rochester Institute of Technology | Rochester, NY $16.00/hour | Temp-to-Hire Opportunity Datrose is hiring Cooks to support RIT Dining locations across the Rochester Institute of Technology campus. These positions are designed to provide qualified employees with an opportunity to get their foot in the door at RIT, demonstrate their skills, and be considered for direct employment with RIT. Employees who demonstrate strong attendance, reliability, performance, and a commitment to the team may have the opportunity to transition from Datrose to a permanent RIT position with access to RIT's employee benefits and career opportunities.

Requirements

High School Diploma or GED.
At least 6 months of food service experience in a high-volume restaurant, institutional kitchen, country club, dining operation, or similar environment.
ServSafe certification or ability to obtain certification within six months.
Ability to successfully complete RIT's Cook I culinary skills assessment.
Reliable transportation to and from the RIT campus.
Strong attendance and dependability.
A willingness to learn, cross-train, and become part of the RIT Dining team.

Responsibilities

Prepare short-order and grill items including hamburgers, chicken, eggs, and other menu items.
Prepare deli, salad bar, cold food, and composed salad items.
Follow established recipes and production specifications.
Wash, cut, portion, and prepare hot and cold foods.
Ensure food is prepared in the appropriate quantity and maintained at proper temperatures.
Maintain proper food labeling, rotation, and storage.
Assist with training student employees on food preparation, sanitation, cleaning, and equipment use.
Clean grills, ovens, cooking utensils, hoods, and other kitchen equipment.
Maintain food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety standards.
Assist with other dining responsibilities as needed.
