About The Position

Horizons Youth Services is seeking an energetic, dynamic, talented and student focused candidate for the full time position of Cook Helper at our Milwaukee Job Corps Center campus! Job Corps is a no-cost residential education and career technical training program administered by the U.S. Department of Labor that helps young people ages 16 to 24 improve the quality of their lives through career technical and academic training.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
  • Valid state driver’s license.

Nice To Haves

  • NRA Food Service Sanitation or equivalent/Safe Serve certification preferred – will be required to obtain upon hire, if needed.
  • Cooking: 1 year (Preferred)
  • Restaurant Experience: 1 year (Preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Assists in the preparation and service of meals.
  • Responsible for kitchen and dining area sanitation.
  • Interacts positively with students aged 16-24; acts as a role model and mentor.
  • High level of customer service to students and staff.
  • All meals cooked from scratch.
  • Ensured all meals and food items meet the dietary needs and desires of a diverse population, including ethnic, vegetarian and low-fat alternatives.
  • Assists in developing and implementing procedures for ordering, purchasing, receiving, storing, inventorying, and issuing food products that ensure the prevention of fraud and abuse, protection of food and food preparation equipment and areas from contaminants, insects, and rodents, and the safe and sanitary handling and storage of food.
