About The Position

This position is located at the LSUA Children's Center in Alexandria, LA. The Cook is responsible for preparing and serving meals and snacks according to the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) and center guidelines. This role ensures students receive correct food items, including specialized diets, and assists with maintaining a clean and organized kitchen and dining environment. The Cook also plays a role in inventory management, menu creation, and participating in required trainings and meetings.

Requirements

  • Pass the Childcare Background check
  • CPR/First Aid certified (or be willing to be)

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and serve meals and snacks according to the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) and center guidelines
  • Ensure each student is given correct food items, per their specialized diets
  • Prepare and serve special snacks or treats, as applicable
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area, including the kitchen, dining room, and pantry
  • Clean and sanitize work areas, equipment, and utensils
  • Assist teachers in cleaning their designated areas post-meals
  • Prepare daily bleach bottles for kitchen and classrooms
  • Operate equipment such as stoves, ovens, air fryers, etc...
  • Ensure equipment is operating properly and inform director of any issues
  • Handle and store ingredients and food
  • Check the quality and freshness of ingredients and products and inform director of any issues
  • Create weekly grocery lists according to what is on the upcoming menu
  • Shop for needed groceries and kitchen products—both online and in the store
  • Inspect food orders as they arrive to determine the accuracy and quality of deliveries
  • Submit expense reports for LaCarte card purchases
  • Conduct monthly inventory
  • Create menus and make them accessible to parents and staff
  • Notate any menu changes on the menu in the kitchen and parent menu
  • Complete daily attendance, menu worksheets, and other CACFP paperwork, as needed
  • Create and maintain a recipe book of popular meals and snacks
  • Participate in staff meetings and staff workdays
  • Complete annual LSU trainings, per LSU’s policy
  • Complete any other LSU requirements, as applicable
  • Complete a minimum of 12 continuing education hours, per licensing year
  • Complete CACFP trainings, as needed
  • Supervise and ensure the safety and well-being of children as needed within the center
