About The Position

Jefferson Franklin Community Action Corporation (JFCAC) is seeking a Cook/Custodian to join their team. This role is responsible for purchasing, storing, preparing, cooking, and serving meals to Head Start children. The Cook/Custodian will coordinate with center staff on activities, supervise kitchen volunteers, and perform general cleaning of classrooms, bathrooms, and the kitchen area used by JFCAC children, staff, and families. JFCAC is a not-for-profit agency established in 1965, focused on addressing the causes and conditions of poverty in Jefferson and Franklin Counties through strong partnerships.

Requirements

  • High School or General Education Development (GED) diploma.
  • Certificate in ServSafe or attain it within 30 days of employment.
  • Physically able to stand for long periods of time, as well as stooping, squatting, running, and lift an estimated 50 pounds.
  • Able to navigate email, internet, Microsoft Word, and other computer database programs.
  • Must have an active driver's license.
  • Required to travel in or out of community with own transportation.

  • Experience in preparing and serving food for large groups.
  • Experience with low-income families, child care, health, or education.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares and serves nutritious and economical meals according to the planned menu.
  • Serves meals in an attractive environment using "family style" meal service.
  • Conforms to printed Head Start menus posted in the kitchen, using a substitute menu in emergencies.
  • Ensures changes made to an approved menu due to food availability are approved by the Family Health Coordinator and noted on record.
  • Complies with sanitation guidelines recommended by the State of Missouri Health Department.
  • Keeps the kitchen area sanitary, clean, and orderly, including cooking appliances, utensils, dishes, kitchen, and serving area.
  • Ensures the cleaning checklist is completed daily and kept on file.
  • Cleans dining room tables, chairs, and floor in the eating area before and immediately after each meal, with assistance from other staff as needed.
  • Maintains food service equipment in working condition and reports any problems or repairs to the Team Supervisor.
  • Maintains all records and documentation pertaining to food services, including purchase amounts of food, recording expenditures, and daily sanitation checklist.
  • Addresses special diet needs for Head Start children in cooperation with the Family Health Coordinator.
  • Follows CACFP regulations for preparation, storage, and disposal of foods.
  • Removes and disposes of all trash from restrooms, kitchen, and classrooms.
  • Sanitizes bathroom floors, sinks, and toilets.
  • Stocks paper towels, toilet paper, and hand soap.
  • Sweeps and mops all floors daily.
  • Supervises kitchen volunteers.
  • Coordinates with center staff on activities.
