About The Position

Jefferson Franklin Community Action Corporation (JFCAC) is seeking a Cook/Custodian to join their team. This role is responsible for purchasing, storing, preparing, cooking, and serving meals to Head Start children. The cook will also coordinate with center staff, supervise kitchen volunteers, and perform general cleaning duties for classrooms, bathrooms, and the kitchen area used by JFCAC children, staff, and families. JFCAC is a not-for-profit agency dedicated to addressing poverty in Jefferson and Franklin Counties.

Requirements

  • High School or General Education Development (GED) diploma.
  • Certificate in ServSafe or attain it within 30 days of employment.
  • Physically able to stand for long periods of time, as well as stooping, squatting, running, and lift an estimated 50 pounds.
  • Able to navigate email, internet, Microsoft Word, and other computer database programs.
  • Must have an active driver's license and will be required to travel in or out of community with own transportation.

  • Experience in preparing and serving food for large groups.
  • Experience with low-income families, child care, health, or education.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares and serves nutritious and economical meals according to the planned menu, using "family style" meal service.
  • Conforms to posted Head Start menus, using a substitute menu only in emergencies.
  • Ensures any changes to the approved menu due to food availability are approved by the Family Health Coordinator and noted on record.
  • Complies with sanitation guidelines recommended by the State of Missouri Health Department, keeping the cooking area, appliances, utensils, dishes, kitchen, and serving area sanitary, clean, and orderly.
  • Ensures the daily cleaning checklist is completed and kept on file.
  • Cleans dining room tables, chairs, and floor in the eating area before and after each meal, with assistance from other staff as needed.
  • Maintains food service equipment in working condition and reports any problems or repair needs to the Team Supervisor.
  • Maintains all records and documentation pertaining to food services, including food purchase amounts, expenditures, and the daily sanitation checklist.
  • Addresses special diet needs for Head Start children in cooperation with the Family Health Coordinator.
  • Follows CACFP regulations for preparation, storage, and disposal of foods.
  • Removes and disposes of all trash from restrooms, kitchen, and classrooms.
  • Sanitizes bathroom floors, sinks, and toilets.
  • Stocks paper towels, toilet paper, and hand soap.
  • Sweeps and mops all floors daily.
