About The Position

Westhaven, a senior care community, managed by Cassia, is hiring a Cook/ Culinary Assistant to join our team in Boone, IA. This is a great opportunity for those seeking entry-level work or wanting to learn and grow in a healthcare setting. In this unique role, you will be working as both a Cook and Culinary Assistant based on needs. As a Cook at Westhaven you will be working in a commercial kitchen to make specialized meals for our residents. This can include working with dietary needs that require diabetic, low-sodium and pureed meals along with batch cooking. You will ensure that all food preparation and cooking activities comply with health, cleanliness, and safety regulations. As a Culinary Assistant, you will gain valuable knowledge and experience by serving our residents, employees, and family members’ meals. Our Dietary Department is a great group to work with and are valued by the staff and residents alike.

Requirements

  • 1+ year commercial cooking/ food preparation experience required.
  • Selected candidates are required to pass background checks.
  • Must be able to read and follow recipes.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, changing environment.
  • Ability to stand for length of shift.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior serving/ dining experience preferred but not required. We Will Train!

Responsibilities

  • Deliver exceptional service to residents by providing fast, friendly and excellent customer service to all guests.
  • Prepare and cook all meals to ensure adherence to recipes and quality standards.
  • Observe and report on low stock or high-demand choices.
  • Observe and report on resident change of condition or changes in ability.
  • Participate in meetings and required training to maintain regulatory standards of food service at the community.
  • Inspect kitchen for conformance to government and company safety and sanitation requirements.
  • Provide excellent customer service to residents, staff, and families.
  • Collaborates with all departments to provide safe, quality and nutritious meals and service to residents.
  • Assist in maintaining a clean and sanitary dietary department.
  • Wash dishes and clean the kitchen and dining rooms.
  • Assist residents, employees, and guests with a broad range of dietary needs.
  • Perform additional tasks as needed.
