About The Position

Iroquois Job Corps is seeking an On-Call Cook Assistant to help provide nutritious, high-quality meals to our students while gaining valuable hands-on food service experience. This position is an excellent opportunity for individuals who are currently attending culinary school, technical school, community college, or pursuing careers in various fields related to culinary arts, food service, nutrition, or hospitality. Whether you're beginning your culinary career or looking to gain additional experience, this position offers practical, real-world training in a professional commercial kitchen while serving approximately hundreds of meals each day to students and staff. As a Cook Assistant, you will work alongside our culinary team to prepare wholesome, nutritious, and appetizing meals while learning the daily operations of a high-volume food service environment. You'll help ensure food quality, food safety, and excellent customer service while supporting our mission of helping students succeed. This is an On-Call position with flexible scheduling based on operational needs.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Two years of experience in a cafeteria, restaurant, commercial kitchen, healthcare food service, school cafeteria, or related food service environment preferred.
  • Knowledge of food preparation techniques and commercial kitchen operations.
  • Understanding of food safety and sanitation regulations.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced team environment.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the preparation and service of daily meals.
  • Ensure serving lines are properly prepared before each meal service.
  • Assist in preparing wholesome, nutritious, and appealing meals.
  • Monitor food temperatures throughout meal service to ensure food safety compliance.
  • Maintain proper food handling and sanitation standards.
  • Assist with inventory management and notify supervisors when supplies need replenishing.
  • Help prepare weekly and monthly food service reports.
  • Maintain daily records of food costs and food usage.
  • Assist with kitchen organization, cleanliness, and equipment maintenance.
  • Work collaboratively with the Food Services team to provide excellent service to students and staff.
  • Follow all health department, sanitation, and food safety regulations.
