About The Position

Food Service personnel are responsible to the Director of Food and Nutrition Services, Food and Nutrition Services Field Supervisor, and the Kitchen Manager. The Cook Assistant makes a “School Meal Pattern” lunch available to every school child; assists in preparing and serving nutritious food as required by participation in the federal program; and provides sanitary working conditions. Salary is based on the 2025-2026 Food Service Salary Schedule; (salary will be updated according to the 2026-27 school year salary schedule once it has been approved). Salary placement is based on experience and longevity and will be determined by Human Resources. Work Year: 193 days per year, 3.25 hours per day.

Requirements

Must be neat, clean, alert, accurate, and have the ability to communicate effectively with co-workers, staff and students.
Requires strong basic skills to accurately follow written instructions and utilize basic math calculations.
Position requires stamina (standing long hours) and ability to consistently lift 30 pounds.
Must be a good role model and enjoy working with children.
Must have or obtain a Food Handler’s permit.

Responsibilities

Makes a “School Meal Pattern” lunch available to every school child.
Assists in preparing and serving nutritious food as required by participation in the federal program.
Provides sanitary working conditions.
Assists in preparation and service of all menu items for Breakfast and Lunch which is appealing and attractive to students.
Learns and becomes proficient in the operation of large equipment such as ovens, range, dishwasher, meat slicer, garbage disposal, steam-jacketed kettle, proofer, steamers, and mixer.
Maintains a clean kitchen with sanitary working conditions.
Knows and contributes to routine required by job service program and specific kitchen.
Performs all duties necessary to maintain a "School Meal Pattern" lunch.
Communicates effectively with administrators, co-workers, parents, students, and others as needed.
