About The Position

Astor Services is hiring a Cook Assistant for our Poughkeepsie location. Head Start is a federally funded preschool program delivering services to 3 and 4-year old children and their families in core areas of early learning, health, and family well-being. The Cook Assistant is responsible for assisting in the preparation of food for all children and designated personnel. Other tasks include dish washing, maintaining cleanliness of the kitchen area, meal count, and assisting the cook to achieve maximum efficiency while fulfilling USDA nutritional requirements. Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED.

• Kitchen experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Must be able to lift a least 30 pounds without assistance.
• Must be able to utilize step stools and ladders.
• Must be able to operate powered and manual kitchen tools.
• Must be able to negotiate staircases and confined areas.
• Must be able to follow standardize recipes.
• Responsible for the preparation of food items for children and designated personnel.
• Inspects and tastes food to ensure that established quality and quantity standards are maintained.
• Responsible for the general sanitation, proper storage and economic use of food within the dietary department.
• Assures that meal hours for children and designated personnel are adhered to in accordance with agency policy.
• Performs other related duties as requested by the Dietary Coordinator.
