Controls Engineering Manager
About The Position
PAR Systems, a world leader in engineering intelligent solutions, is seeking a Controls Engineering Manager to lead its PAR Automation business. This role will guide a software-centric controls engineering team through a period of growth, innovation, and modernization, focusing on adopting an AI-enabled engineering mindset. The ideal candidate will have experience in developing software and control systems for advanced automation equipment, along with hands-on experience using AI development tools to enhance engineering productivity. This position is crucial in defining how PAR Systems responsibly utilizes AI tools to improve software delivery speed while maintaining quality, traceability, safety, cybersecurity, and control over production code. It offers a unique opportunity to shape the future of the controls and automation software organization by building strong teams, modernizing development practices, and defining an AI-assisted development lifecycle for industrial automation.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Software, or related field).
- 8+ years of experience developing software and control systems for industrial automation equipment.
- 3+ years of technical leadership or engineering management experience.
- Strong background in control systems architecture, motion control, and automation software development.
- Experience using AI-assisted software development tools such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, Cursor, or similar technologies.
- Ability to lead change management and drive adoption of modern engineering practices.
- Strong organizational and communications skills.
- History of producing strong financial and technical results in a team-based environment.

Responsibilities
- Lead a software-centric controls engineering team through growth, innovation, and modernization.
- Manage execution across complex automation programs.
- Help the team adopt an AI-enabled engineering mindset.
- Define how PAR Systems responsibly uses AI tools to improve software delivery speed while maintaining quality, traceability, safety, cybersecurity, and control over production code.
- Shape the future of the controls and automation software organization by building strong teams, modernizing development practices, and defining an AI-assisted development lifecycle for industrial automation.
- Set technical requirements and direction for new and existing solutions alongside Chief Engineers, project management, sales, and estimating teams.
- Lead a team responsible for designing and implementing software and control systems for complex, custom automation equipment.
- Drive planning and execution of PAR Systems' mission, vision, and strategy.
- Guide the organization in determining where AI tools can safely and effectively accelerate engineering workflows (requirements analysis, code generation, test development, documentation, debugging, reviews, knowledge capture).
- Ensure the team maintains strong engineering rigor, including sound architecture, human accountability, code review, verification, validation, cybersecurity awareness, and configuration control.
- Manage engineer assignments, optimize personnel utilization, and improve internal capabilities to support continuous improvement in execution, quality, and technical depth.
- Build high-performing teams, architect robust control systems, and deliver innovative, production-ready automation solutions.
