About The Position

The Controls Engineering Manager provides design framework and overall process guidance for instrumentation, PLC controls, and variable frequency drives all production lines. Assists the controls engineers and process engineers in refining controls / operation of existing equipment and assists in capital project execution. The manager will be involved in the development and implementation of departmental vision and strategies both in-terms of the electrical and controls functional group and product enhancements. The manager will be involved with the technical aspects of the equipment and process, including design reviews, marking up/reviewing drawings, assisting in testing, reviewing PLC coding, hardware component specification, and supporting commissioning.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
  • 12+ years controls design and programming in a manufacturing environment.
  • Working knowledge of PLC and HMI programming and electrical panel design
  • Working knowledge of HMI design and programming theory
  • Proven capability of code writing in a manufacturing environment.
  • Extensive knowledge of MS Office applications

  • Plastics processing and/or extrusion experience
  • ACAD 2D design software

Responsibilities

  • Be a visible participant in the site safety programs
  • Based on their own technical knowledge and experience, develops other controls engineers.
  • Drives consistency in operations and programming across all Trex Residential manufacturing facilities.
  • Drives continuous improvement activities within the equipment control in coordination with the Process engineering group.
  • Assigns and manages execution of controls projects, including new equipment installations, both with internal and external resources.
  • Develops and executes changes to PLC controls where necessary working with line engineers and maintenance technicians.
  • Supports capital engineering projects for new equipment, including panel design, coordination with vendors for construction, PLC programming and new equipment startup.
  • Accountable for all PLC, drive, instrumentation and electrical installations.
  • Available to assist maintenance with troubleshooting of control issues.
  • Develops and reviews procedures and provides training for others to handle routine PLC control or electrical issues during normal off-hours.
  • Provides off-shift troubleshooting if necessary.
  • Conducts and maintains the necessary contacts for ensuring that PLC controls and equipment are current and that the necessary spare parts are available.
