About The Position

Lincoln Electric's Fori Automation manufacturing facility in Shelby Township, MI is looking for bright, driven engineering individuals to join our Controls Engineering Internship Program. This program is designed to connect your academic foundation with real-world, hands-on experience. As a participant, you’ll Be the Linc between your education and a future in advanced manufacturing, innovation, and engineering leadership. The Controls Engineering Internship Program offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in controls engineering within a leading global automation and manufacturing environment. Based in Shelby Township, MI, this internship places you at the heart of innovation, where you’ll work alongside experienced engineers to design, develop, and implement advanced automation systems. Whether you're passionate about control systems, this role allows you to apply your academic knowledge to real-world challenges, develop technical skills, and contribute to impactful projects. You’ll be part of a collaborative team that values creativity, precision, and continuous learning. This position requires participation in our Immersion Day at our Cleveland, OH headquarters during one of your first few weeks. Lincoln Electric will provide and cover all travel arrangements and expenses.

Requirements

  • Pursuing or having achieved a bachelor's degree in engineering
  • Eligible to work in the U.S. on a full-time, permanent basis without sponsorship
  • Open to traveling in the US
  • Strong communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • An engineering degree in any of the following disciplines: Electrical or Computer Engineering
  • Minimum overall GPA of 3.0
  • Experience with CAD software such as SolidWorks, Inventor, or AutoCAD
  • Coursework or experience in programming (e.g., Python, C/C++, PLC ladder logic)
  • Familiarity with electrical circuits, schematic reading, or mechanical design
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Knowledge of BOMs, print reading, and manufacturing routing
  • Exposure to PLC/HMI programming and troubleshooting

Responsibilities

  • Design controls, hardware, and software for industrial automation equipment
  • Debug and troubleshoot PLC software
  • Maintain task lists and reports of open items
  • Maintain project design documentation and prepare customer deliverables
  • Ensure the controls engineering process is tracked and followed
