About The Position

We are currently seeking a Controller, working out of our Canadian Headquarters in Laval, QC. The Controller maintains and controls the General Ledger and is responsible for the accurate recording of business transactions in accordance with both local and corporate policies. This role will include analytical work and a thorough review of financial records. This key position in the Accounting Department oversees the department’s functions with a focus on ensuring the timely and accurate delivery of financial statements and reporting. The hands-on Controller oversees / reviews activities of team members who are responsible for recording of day-to-day transactions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience with a significant portion of it being in a supervisory role.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication with ability to work across all levels of an organization.
  • Strong leadership skills with a dedication to driving and achieving results.
  • Values and maintains confidentiality.
  • Flexible and able to adjust to evolving business-needs in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Experience with other financial systems.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the day-to-day accounting operations of PIP Canada Ltd.
  • Manage all aspects of the month-end close process in adherence with corporate timelines, including production of financial statements, various reporting schedules, and analyzing information from several data sources.
  • Ensure that reported results comply with ASPE and corporate policies.
  • Prepare certain journal entries, as well as review team member journal entries.
  • Review and maintain balance sheet account reconciliations.
  • Review general ledger, accounts payable, and payroll transactions for accuracy.
  • Ensure transactions are recorded, documented, reviewed, and supported in accordance with corporate accounting policies.
  • Ensure that proper internal financial controls are implemented and followed.
  • Maintain general ledger accounts, including analysis of key accruals, prepaids (and appropriate amortization), other significant accounts.
  • Manage chart of accounts in local ERP and coordinate with FP&A, as applicable.
  • Assist with forecasting and preparation of the annual budget.
  • Responsible for annual audit and with preparing annual financial report; work with external auditors during year-end audits.
  • Provide actual to budget analysis and work closely with department heads to answer questions and be knowledgeable about their department spend.
  • Develop and implement effective systems for collecting, analyzing, verifying, and reporting financial information more efficiently.
  • Observe accounting processes and procedures, and provide recommendations regarding operational improvements and efficiencies.
  • Implement accounting procedures, financial policies, and continuous improvement.
  • Lead assignment of day-to-day tasks and responsibilities and assist the Finance Director with other team related matters.
  • Handle ad-hoc projects as needed.
