About The Position

The Controller is responsible for planning, overseeing and directing accounting operations including billing, accounts receivable, accounts payable and payroll. Additionally, the Controller is responsible for all general ledger activity, monitoring internal controls and financial reporting. This position focuses on two major initiatives established by the Firm: Client Focus and Brand Culture/Development.

Requirements

Bachelors Degree in Accounting or Finance required
7+ years of professional accounting experience required
Strong knowledge of US GAAP, preferably CPA
Experience with preparation of financial statements
Should be detail orientated, have strong multi-tasking skills, as well as possess strong organizational skills
Must have strong proficiency in the use of technology and PC applications, specifically, but not limited to, Adobe/PDF, Microsoft Office applications; Word, Excel, Outlook, including maintaining an inbox and calendar

Responsibilities

Establish and maintain the firms accounting principles, practices and procedures.
Protect assets by establishing, monitoring and enforcing internal controls.
Oversee daily cash activities including managing cash position and reconciliations.
Manage bank account balances and ensure sufficient funds are available to meet ongoing operational and capital investment requirements.
Work with outside lenders, as needed.
Oversee the billing and credit and collection processes including the development and implementation of credit and collections policies and procedures.
Monitor accounts receivable adjustments.
Advise as to changes in billing and collection procedures as needed.
Oversee accounts payable activities ensuring adequate review and oversight of outgoing payments.
Manage month-end and year-end close processes.
Perform or oversee the reconciliation of balance sheet accounts and analysis of multi-entity expense accounts on a monthly basis.
Calculate year-end accruals and work with management to ensure complete and accurate information is included in the financials.
Prepare and distribute monthly internal financial statements for all legal entities individually and at a consolidated level.
Analyze variances from budget monthly to ensure accuracy of financial information.
Meet with service line leaders to review financial results.
Distribute financial statements for external use in compliance with contractual obligations.
Manage administration of the firms 401(k) plan and ensure the plan is operating according to the plan document.
Meet with investment advisors quarterly to review offerings and discuss plan maintenance.
Communicate required annual notices and work with auditors to ensure timely completion of annual audit and related filings.
Monitor payroll processing and provide back-up assistance as needed.
Review bi-monthly payroll prior to final processing and analyze variances from budget.
Oversee use and functionality of practice management software.
Work with software vendor and internal IT to maintain software, implement updates, and resolve any and all issues relating to operational effectiveness.
Oversee maintenance of data held in practice management software ensuring fields are consistently used and accurate information is entered.
Maintain firm's expense reporting policy reviewing at least annually for updates.
Development and maintenance of other policies including fixed asset policy, vendor policy and AR policy.
Provide a high quality, accurate work product.
Provide support to professional staff and respond to requests in a timely manner.
Demonstrate comprehension of relevant accounting knowledge, technology concepts and other methodologies.
Demonstrate ability to utilize all applicable department software efficiently.
Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills.
