The Controller oversees the financial health and compliance of the organization, ensuring accurate accounting, job costing, forecasting, and financial reporting. This role works closely with executive leadership, managers, and external partners to guide financial decisions and support sustainable growth.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, or Finance preferred
  • 5+ years of Bookkeeping or Accounting experience in the construction industry (preferred)
  • Strong understanding of construction accounting, including percentage of completion, WIP reporting, and retention
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage 300, Foundation, Viewpoint)
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and leadership skills
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
  • Experience working with general contractors or subcontractors
  • Quickbooks Certification or experience with Quickbooks Desktop
  • Experience with Job Costing

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily accounting operations, including A/P, A/R, general ledger, payroll, and cash management
  • Manage and refine job costing, project billing, WIP schedules, and margin tracking
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
  • Develop and monitor budgets and forecasts across all construction projects
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and relevant tax, audit, and regulatory requirements
  • Coordinate with external CPAs, auditors, and financial institutions
  • Implement and maintain accounting systems and internal controls
  • Provide financial reporting and insights to company leadership
  • Lead and mentor the accounting team
  • Support strategic planning, including long-term budgeting and capital planning
