About The Position

The Controller works closely with the CFO and financial services staff of Wesley Woods Senior Living to provide oversight and financial management of the accounting department. This entails supervising, directing and sometimes performing tasks in the Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, General Accounting, Financial Reporting, Treasury, Payroll and Financial Systems Support areas.

Requirements

  • Certified Public Accountant or Master’s Degree.
  • Minimum seven years’ experience managing accounting departments in Senior Living and or non-profit environment preferred.
  • Experience in coordinating audits, debt support and reporting, and facilitating HUD reports.
  • Previous budget process experience.
  • Proficient in use of MS Word with high level of proficiency in MS Excel software; excellent PC skills; ten-key by touch.
  • Strong financial analytical skills required.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work with various levels of management.
  • Proven ability to mentor and develop staff via delegation and training.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all accounting staff assuring efficiency and productivity of accounting department – including but not limited to General Ledger, Fixed Assets, Accounts Payable, Billing and Accounts Receivable, Cash Management, Payroll, and all third-party financial reporting.
  • Coordinate with the CFO in preparation of monthly and annual financial statements in accordance with generally accepted accounting practices.
  • Provide support to the CFO in Board of Directors reporting and analysis as needed.
  • Liaison with banks and financial institutions relating to debt financing and cash investments.
  • Interface and coordinate with external accountants in preparation of annual audits and income tax and other regulatory filings.
  • Administration of the general ledger, fixed assets, tenant accounts receivable, accounts payable, and payroll to assure month-end and year-end close procedures are timely and accurate.
  • Facilitate annual budget process working with Administrators and Executive Directors.
  • Provide and/or oversee issuance of reports as needed by all regulatory agencies and financial institutions including bond certification reports, bank covenant reports, HUD housing reports, and other state regulatory reports.
  • Provide financial analysis as needed for operational and strategic requirements.
  • Facilitate payment, reporting and reconciliation of fringe benefits working with insurance providers to assure annual renewals are cost effective and competitive.
  • Coordinate with HR on implementation and ongoing reporting related to all benefits.
  • Assist CFO as liaison between WWSL and third-party partners.
  • Oversee deposits/payments of employee retirement plan contributions and federal and state payroll taxes.
  • Support IT department staff and/or third-party contractors for software application updates and changes as required.
  • Other duties and/or special projects as needed by the CFO.
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing, and able to make presentation to Executives, Boards and other key groups as required.
  • Perform duties and responsibilities promptly and consistently with little direct supervision in planning and organizing his/her work.
  • Direct and manage a team of professionals to accomplish tasks in an efficient and timely manner.
  • Develop, train and delegate to staff to accomplish departmental and organization goals.
  • Implement changes in process and procedures to solve problems and address challenges.
  • Objectively appraise and analyze the qualifications and performance of others and train, mentor and reallocate staff based on strengths and abilities.
  • See the ‘big picture’ and assist the CFO in growing the organization by taking advantage of internal and external opportunities.
