Controller

AMPED STAFFING LLCLos Angeles, CA
$120,000 - $140,000Hybrid

About The Position

Amped Kitchens is a real estate operating company that owns and operates commercial food production facilities in Los Angeles and Chicago. Since we opened in 2015, we’ve pioneered the large-scale, multi-tenant commercial kitchen model, serving CPG brands, restaurant groups, caterers, meal-subscription companies, and other food businesses producing at scale. Unlike a traditional landlord, we combine real estate with hands-on property operations and client service. After more than a decade of operating and refining our model, we’re strengthening our leadership team and formalizing our financial and operating processes to prepare for disciplined growth. We’re looking for a Controller to lead the accounting function and help us do that well.

Requirements

  • Seven or more years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Experience as a Controller, Assistant Controller, Accounting Manager, or Senior Property Accountant with substantial month-end close responsibility.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and accrual accounting.
  • Experience in commercial real estate, property management, hospitality, or another multi-location operating business strongly preferred.
  • Experience preparing financial statements and managing property-level or multi-entity accounting.
  • Strong understanding of internal controls and process improvement.
  • Advanced Excel skills.
  • Ability to explain accounting issues and financial results clearly to operating leaders.

Nice To Haves

  • CPA or CMA certification preferred but not required.
  • AppFolio experience is a plus.
  • Build controls and processes that people will follow consistently.
  • Use accounting to help the business operate better and achieve its goals.
  • Spot discrepancies, unusual trends, and process gaps early.
  • Identify opportunities to improve financial performance, cash flow, and operating efficiency.
  • Ask questions and surface problems directly.
  • Turn financial data into actionable information for the CEO and operating leaders.
  • Coach onsite staff and raise the quality of their work.
  • Understand that accurate billing and clear financial communication build trust with clients, vendors, lenders, and investors.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the month-end and quarter-end close and prepare financial statements across multiple properties and SPEs.
  • Maintain the general ledger, including reconciliations, accruals, intercompany activity, and supporting schedules.
  • Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, client billing, collections reporting, cash application, and cash management.
  • Oversee lease accounting, recurring client charges, security deposits, utility recoveries, fixed assets, and capital-project accounting.
  • Coordinate with outside accounting, audit, tax, banking, and other financial partners.
  • Strengthen and streamline internal controls, accounting procedures, approval workflows, and documentation.
  • Oversee the financial processes behind leasing, client onboarding, billing, collections, renewals, and move-outs.
  • Partner with Facilities, Leasing, and Property Operations on purchasing, project budgets, billing, reporting, and cost control.
  • Train onsite Tenant Coordinators on transaction processing and lease administration, review their work, and establish consistent workflows across properties.
  • Document and standardize financial procedures across properties and entities.
  • Coordinate the annual budgeting process and maintain budget-to-actual reporting.
  • Produce property-level and consolidated financial reporting.
  • Maintain the financial data and recurring reports used in company dashboards.
  • Investigate material variances, unusual trends, and discrepancies, and explain what’s driving them.
  • Work with the fractional CFO on forecasting, cash planning, financial analysis, and executive reporting.
  • Oversee payroll, benefits administration, onboarding and offboarding, employee records, and routine HR compliance through ADP TotalSource.
  • Oversee corporate insurance administration, including renewals, claims, and related lender and company documentation.
  • Improve our use of AppFolio and other financial and administrative systems.
