About The Position

The Controller is responsible for overseeing all accounting and financial operations of the organization, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting while supporting operational decision-making. This role leads the accounting function, manages financial reporting and internal controls, and partners closely with leadership to provide financial insight into business performance. The Controller plays a critical role in maintaining strong financial processes within a manufacturing environment, including job costing, inventory valuation, cost analysis, and financial forecasting. This position requires a highly analytical and detail-oriented professional who can manage day-to-day accounting operations while contributing to strategic planning and operational efficiency.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; MBA a plus.
  • CPA or CMA certification strongly preferred
  • 7–10+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Supervisory experience, demonstrated management of a small team
  • Proven ability to build relationships and establish credibility across the breadth of the organization.
  • Previous experience in a senior accounting or controller-level role strongly preferred
  • Strong understanding of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal control frameworks
  • Experience with job costing, inventory accounting, and manufacturing financial analysis
  • Experience with Sage or similar ERP/accounting systems preferred
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and ability to analyze large data set
  • Strong financial analysis and problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • High attention to detail and commitment to financial accuracy

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the accounting function, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Oversee daily accounting operations including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll coordination, and general ledger management.
  • Ensure all accounting practices comply with GAAP and company financial policies.
  • Develop and maintain strong internal controls and financial procedures.
  • Serve as the primary financial resource for department leaders and executive management.
  • Prepare and oversee the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes.
  • Produce accurate and timely financial statements, management reports, and variance analysis.
  • Analyze financial results and provide insights to support operational and strategic decisions.
  • Monitor and report on budget versus actual performance across departments.
  • Develop financial dashboards and reporting tools to improve visibility into key performance metrics.
  • Oversee job costing systems including raw materials, labor, and overhead allocations.
  • Monitor work-in-progress accounts and ensure accurate costing throughout the production cycle
  • Analyze manufacturing costs, margins, and operational efficiencies.
  • Establish and monitor inventory accounting processes including cycle counts, physical inventory, and reconciliations.
  • Ensure accurate inventory valuation and cost of goods sold reporting.
  • Lead the annual budgeting process and ongoing financial forecasting activities.
  • Work with department leaders to establish financial targets and monitor performance.
  • Evaluate capital expenditures and track project spending.
  • Provide financial modeling and analysis to support business growth initiatives.
  • Successfully manage company cash flows and ensure company financing requirements and bank covenants remain aligned.
  • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local financial regulations.
  • Oversee external audit preparation and serve as the primary liaison with auditors.
  • Ensure proper documentation and testing of financial processes and controls.
  • Manage tax coordination with external partners as required.
  • Maintain confidentiality and integrity of all financial data.
  • Identify opportunities to improve and document accounting processes, workflows, and financial systems.
  • Support ERP optimization and financial system enhancements.
  • Develop scalable financial processes to support company growth.
  • Implement best practices in financial reporting, data analysis, and cost management.
  • Partner with operations, HR, supply chain, engineering, and production leadership to understand financial impacts of business decisions.
  • Provide financial guidance to improve operational efficiency and profitability.
  • Support leadership with data-driven recommendations and financial insights.
