Controller

Blacksmith•New York, NY
•$175,000 - $200,000

About The Position

Blacksmith started by building infrastructure to run CI workloads really fast. Their first product helps companies run GitHub Actions substantially faster and cheaper by owning and operating their own global fleet of bare-metal machines rather than renting generic cloud VMs. Today, they orchestrate tens of millions of Firecracker VMs each week, running CI for 7,000+ companies and tens of millions in ARR. They operate thousands of bare-metal machines across multiple regions, regularly schedule 100k+ vCPUs concurrently, and run a petabyte-scale Ceph cluster that they manage themselves. They have raised $58.5M from Seed to Series B, led by Google Ventures (GV) & Peak XV Partners, and are intentionally building a small, but exceptional team. Blacksmith was founded by a team with deep systems and scaling experience, including building search/ads infrastructure at Faire, and operating large distributed systems at Cockroach Labs. Their GTM is led by Jon Boyer, formerly Head of Sales at Zapier. They are now extending the same CI infrastructure into a broader platform: running agent sandboxes at scale and building their own background coding agent on top of it. As Controller, you will build the accounting function from the ground up. You will own the close, technical accounting, financial reporting, and the internal controls that make all of it trustworthy. You will navigate complex deal structures across venture backed and enterprise contracts, manage the external audit relationship, and oversee equity accounting as their programs scale. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-evolving AI infrastructure business, where transactions span revenue contracts, large-scale infrastructure investments, and strategic financing. This role reports to the CFO.
