Controller

Coram AISunnyvale, CA

About The Position

At Coram AI, we’re reimagining video security for the modern world. Our cloud-native platform uses computer vision and AI to help businesses stay safe, make smarter decisions, and move faster; from real-time alerts to seamless clip sharing and multi-site visibility. You’ll be joining an ambitious, fast-moving team that values clarity, craftsmanship, and impact. Every person here has a voice, ships meaningful work, and helps shape how AI can make the world safer and more connected. The Controller owns the entire accounting function and is the second finance leader, working directly alongside the Head of Finance. You will own the books across all entities (US, UK, India), the month-end close and consolidations, technical accounting (606, 842, 718), revenue, COGS and inventory, and internal controls, and you will run and complete our external audit. You will manage the tax, statutory, and specialist work, and you will manage and grow the accounting team. To start, this is a player-coach seat. It is you and one accountant, so you run and review the close yourself and own the technical work directly, then hire and build the team over the next 12 to 18 months. You need to be as comfortable in the details as you are leading. Just as important, you will help build an AI-first accounting function. We already run much of the transactional layer on automation, and we want a Controller who treats that as core to the job, not a side project. This is a rare seat for a strong technical accountant who wants to build the accounting org of the future on a small, senior, high-leverage team, with room to grow in scope as we scale through a Series C to $50M+ ARR.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, or an Accounting Manager / Assistant Controller ready to step up into a full controllership.
  • Independently owned a month-end close.
  • Handled real revenue recognition (ASC 606).
  • Been through an audit.
  • Hardware experience: experience with inventory, COGS, and hardware revenue and bundling from a company that ships physical product.
  • Strong technical accountant: hands-on with US GAAP, revenue recognition (ASC 606) and consolidations.
  • Experience with leases (ASC 842), stock-based comp (ASC 718), and capitalized software is ideal.
  • Audit experience, internal or external.
  • Experience owning or heavily contributing to a multi-entity month-end close and consolidations.
  • Experience being part of selecting and implementing an ERP.
  • Experience building and managing a team.
  • AI-forward and genuinely AI-pilled: already using automation and AI in accounting, with a point of view on how a modern accounting org should be built.
  • Multi-entity or international experience (UK/India).
  • High-growth startup background.
  • High-slope: grown into bigger scope faster than peers and ready for the next step.
  • Strong technical accountant: able to handle and defend complex ASC 606 or ASC 842 issues in an audit.
  • AI-forward: already automates what can be automated and thinks about accounting as a system to be built.
  • Builder and leader: has built a team and raised the bar, with people growing under them.
  • Owns outcomes: ensures the close lands, the audit is clean, and it happens on time without reminders.
  • Direct communicator: flags risk and bad news early and clearly, without hedging.
  • Controls-minded, not bureaucratic.
  • Comfortable being challenged: welcomes hard questions on judgment and can defend a position or change it when wrong.
