About The Position

The Controller shall hold responsibility for managing the overall financial operations of the Company and will provide accurate information to the CFO and Executive team, including analysis, budgeting, forecasting and preparing financial reports. The Corporate Controller will be responsible for directing and managing the company’s accounting functions (team of 8), including establishing and maintaining accounting principles, practices, and procedures as well as the preparation of financial statements and reporting to top management and externally. The Controller also maintains the company's accounting systems and implements changes as required.

Requirements

  • University degree in Business/Accounting, with advanced degree or professional accounting designation (CPA) preferred.
  • Extensive experience and knowledge of all aspects of corporate accounting and financial management.
  • Proficient communication, interpersonal and organizational skills are vital to the role.
  • Experience overseeing audits performed by external audit firms
  • Financial analysis, budgeting, and some strategic planning experience
  • Knowledge of accounting principles, practices, and applications
  • Knowledge of financial planning preparation and analysis techniques
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Office and Excel
  • Management and or supervisory experience
  • Good project management skills and the ability to motivate teams to produce quality work

Responsibilities

  • Direct financial activities of the company by performing the following personally or through associated staff
  • Maintain accurate, reliable, and timely accounting information and analysis for company, including each project.
  • Completion of all financial information and schedules for each business unit and legal entity including monthly and year end working files within deadlines established by this role.
  • Oversee monthly meetings for job cost budgeting, planning and actual project performance.
  • Manage the daily accounting functions of accounts receivables, accounts payables, job costing and general accounting.
  • Provide direct supervision and mentoring of accounting staff.
  • Promote and coordinate cross-function training for all accounting staff as required.
  • Assisting the Financial Planning & Analysis team in the preparation and analysis of annual and quarterly budgets together with the necessary supporting documentation. Assist senior management in budgeting and financial planning.
  • Monitor actual performance against budget. Identify reasons for variances, issues, and trends. Propose recommendations to resolve or mitigate negative performance and trends.
  • Assist in the development, interpretation, and implementation of financial models for financial planning and control.
  • Oversee the day-to-day cash management for company.
  • Prepare and maintain the Company’s accounting and finance policies and procedures; work closely and cooperatively with colleagues and operations/human resources staff to ensure adherence to such policies and procedures.
  • Act as the main point of contact and arrange the audit of the Company's accounts.
  • Assist Senior Manager Financial Reporting to prepare federal and provincial income tax returns; ensure compliance with all provincial and federal commodity taxes.
  • Review and authorize proposed changes to the accounting system software.
  • Prepare reports required by regulatory agencies, bank, bonding company & any other financial statement user.
  • Assist CFO in the management of the Insurance program and banking facility
  • Initiate, prepare and provide ad-hoc reporting/analysis and research to assist business decision making.
  • Oversee and process office payroll and related remittances using third party payroll provider.
  • Assist CFO in acquisition opportunities.
  • Any other duties may be required to meet Company objectives.
