About The Position

Business Sherpa Group provides outsourced operations support to small and midsized enterprises (SMEs). Our experienced team of embedded experts bring systems, solutions, and ongoing support when and how our clients need it. From the onset, it has been our mission to provide our clients with the resources you’d expect at a larger organization, but delivered in a way that is practical and affordable for SMEs. Our Cloud-Based Accounting Practice is currently seeking a full-time Controller to support the delivery of accurate, timely, and high-quality accounting services to our clients. Working remotely, you'll collaborate closely with clients, cross-functional teams, CFOs, account managers, and technical teams to ensure the seamless execution of accounting activities and effective client communication. While not responsible for managing the broader practice, you may provide day-to-day guidance, mentorship, and oversight to a small team of accounting professionals. Requirements

A CPA or CPA candidate
5+ years of progressive accounting experience in a range of small and mid-sized organizations.
Experience in a controller-level role with an accounting or bookkeeping firm, during which you managed a portfolio of clients.
Experience as an accounting supervisor or team lead.
In-depth knowledge of accounting principles, standards, and regulations (GAAP, IFRS, etc.), and cloud-based accounting packages.
Driven to do things right and take a constructive approach to solving problems.
Enthusiasm for what you do and the desire to help clients succeed.

Responsibilities

Serve as a trusted financial advisor to a portfolio of clients, building strong relationships, understanding their business goals, and delivering responsive, value-added financial leadership.
Review financial statements, reporting packages, and key analyses to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with accounting standards and best practices.
Oversee month-end and year-end close processes, cash flow management, and financial reporting across multiple client engagements, ensuring deadlines and service expectations are consistently met.
Participate in budgeting and forecasting exercises.
Act as the lead on client engagements, coordinating the work of accountants and accounting specialists while ensuring high-quality service delivery.
Mentor and support less experienced team members through coaching, knowledge sharing, technical guidance, and review of their work, contributing to their ongoing professional development.
Resolve complex accounting, reporting, and operational challenges for clients, applying strong technical expertise and practical business judgment.
Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, strengthen internal controls, and enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of financial operations for clients.
Collaborate with colleagues across the firm to share best practices, support client success, and contribute to the continued growth and development of Business Sherpa Group's accounting practice.
Manage multiple client relationships and priorities simultaneously while maintaining exceptional service standards and a high degree of professionalism.
