About The Position

The Finance department is seeking a strategic and detail-oriented Controller to lead our accounting operations and help drive financial efficiency, compliance, and reporting accuracy. This individual will be a key partner to the CFO and senior leadership, bringing a strong understanding of the engineering consulting industry, especially within the ACEC framework, and a demonstrated commitment to financial integrity.  

Requirements

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Minimum of 12+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership or controller role
  • Prior experience in the architecture, engineering, or environmental consulting industry; ACEC-member firm background highly preferred
  • Deep knowledge of project-based accounting, FAR, and indirect cost rate calculations

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all accounting operations including billing, A/R, A/P, GL, payroll, cost accounting, and revenue recognition
  • Lead the month-end and year-end close process with accuracy and timeliness
  • Ensure compliance with FAR (Federal Acquisition Regulation), GAAP, and other regulatory frameworks
  • Manage internal and external financial audits and act as primary liaison with auditors
  • Support the CFO with financial strategy, risk management, and long-term planning
  • Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting to the executive team and Board
  • Supervise and develop accounting staff; foster a high-performance, accountable team culture
  • Collaborate with project managers and leadership on budget forecasting, job costing, and profitability analysis
  • Maintain and continuously improve accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
  • Manage indirect cost rates and prepare overhead rate submissions to various State and Local agencies.
  • Partner with HR and operations on payroll, benefits, and tax compliance matters
