About The Position

The Controller is responsible for providing leadership and vision for the accounting functions and reporting transparency of Grandstand in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles issued by the Financial Accounting Standards Board, the Internal Revenue Service, other regulatory and advisory organizations, and in accordance with financial management techniques and practices appropriate within the industry. The Controller communicates with Executive Management in a timely manner and exercises high-level problem-solving skills and decision-making in matters which have a major impact on the on-going success of Grandstand.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation preferred.
  • Minimum of five (5) plus years private sector accounting experience required. Strong preference for experience in manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of economic and accounting principles and practices, financial markets, banking and the analysis and reporting of financial data required.
  • Experience in budget preparation and fiscal management and the ability to develop and maintain recordkeeping systems and procedures.
  • Ability to effectively communicate, write reports, present information and respond to questions, both verbal and written.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with ability to analyze data or information by identifying the underlying principles, reasons, or facts of information and use logic to address work-related issues and problems.
  • Ability to organize, multi-task, plan and set priorities with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work independently and in team settings.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment with a strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to exhibit strong interpersonal communication skills and establish and maintain effective working relationship across all levels of Grandstand.
  • Demonstrated poise, tact, and diplomacy with the ability to handle sensitive and confidential information and situations.
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment with an emphasis on accuracy and timeliness.
  • Regular and reliable attendance combined with being dependable and prompt.

Responsibilities

  • Direct all of Grandstand’s financial activities, including general ledger entries, bank reconciliations, accounts payable and accounts receivable management, reporting, business planning and cash management, reviews entries for accuracy and compliance with Grandstand’s established accounting principles.
  • Establish and maintain financial systems to safeguard Grandstand assets through effective internal controls, annual budgeting, timely financial reporting, annual audits, and insurance coverages.
  • Oversee budget and management of funds and investments to allow for appropriate cash flow to meet financial obligations of Grandstand.
  • Prepare and analyze monthly and year-end comparative financial reports, perform, and provide analysis of current results to prior periods and/or budget.
  • Hire, train, guide and develop staff within direct supervision. Create and hold staff accountable for performance objectives.
  • Identify, develop and implement process improvements to ensure accounting practices are documented and executed efficiently and timely.
  • Manage compliance with collegiate licensing company, including artwork submissions/ approvals and quarterly/annual filings.
  • Ensure information reporting for eCommerce customers is complete, accurate and timely and is reconciled with website activity.
  • Provide strategic leadership for Grandstand by assisting with the establishment of sound operational and strategic plans.
  • Provide leadership development which will ensure the continuing effective management of Grandstand and lead to sound business practices and retention of employees.
  • Responsible for the coordination and completion of the budgeting and forecasting process; ensures accurate completion of all related reports.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of the short-term and long-term strategic plans, monitor, and report on progress and recommend changes as necessary.
  • Ensure Grandstand maintains the highest degree of financial integrity and transparency in its administration of accounting principles and practices which are subject to annual audit reviews.
  • Monitor Grandstand’s cash position, ensuring integrity of cash balances and related controls surround cash, as well as ensuring accuracy and timely completion of monthly bank reconciliation for all accounts.
  • Prepare schedules and documents to coordinate year-end audits with independent auditors.
  • Conduct annual renewal process of Grandstand’s corporate insurance and ensure appropriate and most cost effectives rates are obtained. Serve as Grandstand’s contact/liaison with insurance carriers.
  • Review payroll records to ensure that payroll is accurately stated in the financial reports.
  • Responsible for the capital budget and related maintenance of fixed asset records, depreciation rates and related systems.
  • Maintain computerized accounting system, backup control, and assist staff with questions as needed.
  • Remain current with developments, practice trends and promulgations in the accounting profession and monitor accounting systems, recommending new or revised policies and procedures as necessary.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned, including special business projects and analyses, as requested by the President.
