About The Position

The Control Room Superintendent is a critical leadership role responsible for the safe and reliable delivery of transit services in a dynamic, 24/7/365 operational environment. You will manage a diverse team of Inspectors, Controllers, and Control Room staff, providing essential leadership, coaching, counseling, and support. As a key decision-maker, you will hold ultimate authority during emergencies, making independent and complex decisions in time-sensitive contexts that directly impact public safety, service availability for Edmontonians, and operational performance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, or other related fields of education, supplemented with training in management and leadership practices. A combination of related equivalencies and experience may be considered
  • 3+ years of leadership experience managing teams and supervisors in a unionized environment, with knowledge of collective agreements and human resource policies
  • Proven track record in conducting workplace investigations and managing complex operational deployments during emergencies
  • Completion of or the ability to obtain Incident Command System (ICS) 200 certification
  • Must possess, or be able to obtain, Standard First Aid, CPR, and AED Training
  • Leadership & Management: Exceptional leadership, human resource management, and team-building skills, with a proven ability to supervise individuals and interdisciplinary teams while driving performance development
  • Strategic Decision-Making: Proven ability to exercise sound judgment and make critical, high-pressure decisions in ambiguous, time-sensitive, and complex operational environments
  • Communication & Collaboration: Excellent verbal, written, facilitation, and presentation skills, combined with the ability to build collaborative, strategic partnerships with diverse internal and external partners
  • Professionalism & Organization: Highly organized with effective prioritization skills, consistently maintaining confidentiality, discretion, and integrity in all professional interactions
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's licence (or provincial equivalent).
  • Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver's permit is a requirement of this position
  • Applicants will be required to arrange their own transportation and, where appropriate, will be reimbursed in accordance with City of Edmonton policy. This may require the applicant to obtain business use auto insurance
  • Hire is dependent upon a Police Information Check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and implement work processes, monitor/manage projects, and establish related performance standards
  • Supervise and manage the ETS bus service provided to the City of Edmonton
  • Oversee and respond to escalated decisions for major ETS incidents, including support for ETS participants and other partners, as well as conducting any additional follow-up
  • Manage investigations from customer, public and administration inquiries as they relate to transit service performance and reliability
  • Evaluate service delivery during and after events for effectiveness, while modifying plans as necessary
  • Manage, monitor and assign resources (human, financial and equipment) to support transit services, including the approval of overtime
  • Investigate and resolve safety-related concerns and issues at the assigned work locations/service area and proactively identify and remove/resolve hazards to ensure a safe work environment for employees, contractors and visitors to the Control Centre
  • Participate in recruitment, coordinate training activities, and conduct performance evaluations for direct reports and probationary employee reviews
  • Attend and staff the Emergency Coordination Centre (ECC) as required
  • Perform other related duties as required
