Control Room Operator

Paramount Resources Ltd.Grande Prairie, AB
Hybrid

About The Position

Paramount Resources Ltd. is seeking four highly skilled and experienced Control Room Operators to oversee the daily operations of the Sinclair Gas Plant. This is a high-impact, hands-on role that begins with a focused operational readiness phase based out of the Grande Prairie office, transitioning full-time to the Sinclair Gas Plant control room in Q2 2027. Reporting to the Plant Foreman, the ideal candidate will play a key role in planning, design reviews, commissioning, start-up, and operation of the facility. You will be responsible for managing real-time process controls, troubleshooting, and optimizing plant systems from the board, and serving as the primary communications point for operators. The schedule is a 7 days on, 7 days off (7&7) cross-shift rotation, with 14&14 open for consideration. Initially, the role involves working day shift only until transitioning to site and starting alternating day and night hitches (12-hour shifts). Candidates must reside within a 100km radius of the Sinclair plant site while on shift. Camp housing/accommodations are available nearby for personnel during their scheduled shift rotation.

Requirements

  • Minimum 6 years of gas plant operations experience, with at least 3 years operating a console/board (DCS) in a large-scale sour processing facility.
  • Proven expertise in sour gas processing, amine sweetening, glycol dehydration, compression, and acid gas compression and injection.
  • Proven mastery of Distributed Control Systems (DeltaV preferred) and advanced SCADA/HMI platform structures.
  • Superior ability to read and interpret P&IDs, schematics, logic blocks, and shutdown keys. Proficient in diagnosing system anomalies via long-term historical data trends.
  • Demonstrated capability to maintain composure, prioritize tasks, and communicate with clarity during high-pressure facility trips or emergency response scenarios.
  • Self-starter and able to work independently with minimal supervision, time management and organizational effectiveness are critical to this position. Flexible and adaptable to changing work environments.
  • Proficient with maintenance and safety tracking software (Maximo preferred for work-order and MOC) and standard Microsoft Office programs.
  • High School Diploma required.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License, H2S Alive, and First Aid certifications.

Nice To Haves

  • Direct experience with plant commissioning, startups, and PSSR processes is highly desirable.
  • Direct console experience managing amine towers, high-pressure acid gas compression/injection systems, gas turbine generators, or large utility-scale thermal fluid loops is highly desirable.
  • GPO/PFO certifications or a Power Engineering ticket is considered a strong asset.

Responsibilities

  • Direct real-time operation of integrated sour gas processing trains from the DeltaV DCS console, stabilizing and optimizing amine sweetening, glycol dehydration, compression, water handling, turbine power generation, thermal heating oil systems, and acid gas injection equipment.
  • Review and provide feedback on DCS HMI screen layouts to ensure optimal operator ergonomics, process visibility, and alarm prioritization.
  • Collaborate with automation and engineering teams to prepare and validate shutdown keys, control philosophy, control loops, and safety interlocks.
  • Partner with Operators to author comprehensive Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), startup/shutdown sequences, and alarm response guides.
  • Assist with Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) for packages.
  • Participate in a site visit to our processing facility in Central Alberta to capture and integrate key operational lessons learned.
  • Utilize process trending to identify process loop instabilities, foaming warning signs, equipment drift, or optimization opportunities to maximize production throughput while minimizing fuel gas and OPEX costs.
  • Serve as the central communication link for the facility. Coordinate with Operators to safely direct execution of physical valving sequences, equipment isolations, and standard lockouts.
  • Enforce strict adherence to alarm management standards, mitigating nuisance alarms, obtaining bypass authorizations and managing bypass logs, and maintaining absolute situational awareness during facility upsets.
  • Monitor custody transfer flow meters and gas quality analyzers, coordinating directly with marketing groups and pipeline operators regarding daily production nominations and sales specifications.
  • Maintain clear, comprehensive logbooks, accurately capturing process modifications, active bypasses, environmental compliance parameters, and equipment safety statuses.
  • Identify bottlenecks and suggest process improvements to reduce costs and optimize throughput.

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation
  • Excellent health and wellness benefits
  • On-the-job experience, coaching and training
  • Collaborative learning environment
  • Camp housing/accommodations
