About The Position

The P IZ CIP STATION MAINTENANCE Department of the P GENERATION Division at Hawaiian Electric Company has 1 Bargaining Unit vacancy available. This role is Non-Exempt. The Control Mechanic installs, overhauls, assembles, adjusts, and calibrates all measuring, transmitting, regulating, and control instruments and equipment in generating stations. As a Control Mechanic at the maximum level, the individual performs various duties. At lower levels, duties are performed under direction or direct supervision in accordance with training stages. This includes installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting electrical, electronic, mechanical, and pneumatic indicating, alarming, recording, regulating, and communications equipment. The role also involves installing, maintaining, repairing, and calibrating component parts of these control systems. Collaboration with supervisory personnel or a Technician (Control) is expected for optimizing, troubleshooting, and repairing complex control systems. The mechanic will install assigned instrument and control piping, wiring, tubing, and fittings, and maintain instrument air filtering systems. Responsibilities also include testing for hydrogen leaks, purging and refilling generators, repairing and maintaining test equipment, and taking data as required. Work is performed from drawings and instruction manuals. The use of hand tools and some power tools, including light gas welding and brazing, is necessary. Operation of material handling and other equipment may be required, and a description of work completed must be recorded. The role may also involve assuming an emergency management role as assigned.

Requirements

  • Ability to identify and distinguish the difference between colors, including shades, hues, and tints. (for electrician related positions)
  • Must pass the Company Written Job Knowledge Test (Journeyman, 1st Year.)
  • Graduate of applicable HECO apprentice program or equivalent training and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Installs, maintains, and troubleshoots all electrical, electronic, mechanical and pneumatic indicating, alarming, recording, regulating and communications equipment.
  • Installs, maintains, repairs and calibrates component parts of electrical, electronic, mechanical, and pneumatic control systems.
  • Works with and under the direction of supervisory personnel or a Technician (Control) to optimize, troubleshoot and repair complex control systems.
  • Installs any assigned instrument and control piping, wiring, tubing and fittings.
  • Maintains instrument air filtering systems.
  • Tests for hydrogen leaks.
  • Purges and refills generator.
  • Repairs and maintains test equipment.
  • Takes data as required.
  • Works from drawings and instruction manuals on all control equipment and instrument installations.
  • Uses hand tools and some power tools as required, including light gas welding and brazing.
  • Operates material handling and other equipment as required.
  • Records a description of work completed.
  • Assume an emergency management role, as assigned, and perform specific assignments or functions, as needed, in an event of an emergency, not to include routine trouble calls/callouts.
  • Performs similar and incidental duties as required.
