Control Electronics Engineering Manager, Neutral Atoms, Quantum AI

Google•Boulder, CO
•$188,000 - $274,000

About The Position

In this role, you will be a leader in a cross-functional team implementing quantum computers using neutral-atom-based quantum processors. You will be involved in all stages of the electronics product lifecycle for these systems. You will work with cross-functional stakeholders to understand the electronic control requirements of neutral-atom quantum computers and use this knowledge to architect control electronics that meet those requirements. You will own the electronics implementation cycle, collaborating with colleagues in the quantum team’s electronics organization and/or vendors to realize robust systems. You will lead testing and bring-up of developed electronics and support their use in experimental systems. Google Quantum AI’s mission is to build a large-scale quantum computer capable of complex, error-corrected computations and to unlock solutions to classically intractable problems. Its roadmap focuses on advancing quantum computing capabilities and enabling meaningful applications.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience in analog, digital, and/or mixed-signal design.
  • 8 years of experience in system, RF, and/or FPGA control architecture.

Nice To Haves

  • PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience designing and building electronic quantum control systems for neutral-atom or trapped-ion quantum computers.
  • Experience leading development projects from specification discovery through implementation and deployment.
  • Experience managing individual contributors and vendors.
  • Understanding of industry board-level system/subsystem design practices across relevant disciplines (e.g., AMS, RF, FPGA), including relevant design tools.

Responsibilities

  • Own board- and system-level design of custom electronic systems for controlling neutral-atom quantum processors.
  • Lead a cross-functional team in evaluating control-system requirements and developing board-level solutions, collaborating with other board- and system-level designers and vendors as needed.
  • Drive ambiguous board-level projects from concept through production and deployment.
  • Support deployment of electronics to quantum computers.
  • Lead testing and bring-up of developed electronics and support their use in experimental systems.
  • Own the implementation cycle of electronics, working with colleagues in the quantum team’s electronics organization and/or vendors.
