About The Position

North South Consulting Group, LLC (NSCG) is seeking a highly skilled Contract Drafter to support architectural and construction initiatives within a federal, VA healthcare environment in Long Beach, CA. In this role, you will collaborate closely with the Contracted Architect, VA Architect, and Chief of Projects & Construction Management to deliver precise, compliant, and visually compelling design documentation for a wide range of campus spaces. This position is contingent upon contract award This is a hands-on role ideal for a detail-oriented professional who thrives in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment and is passionate about translating architectural concepts into accurate, buildable designs.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in Engineering Drafting or a related field (Bachelor’s degree preferred), or equivalent professional experience
  • Minimum of five (5) years of commercial drafting experience
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD (minimum 3 years) and Revit (minimum 3 years)
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Strong ability to read, interpret, and produce construction drawings and specifications
  • Knowledge of healthcare design principles, building systems, and applicable codes (fire/life safety, accessibility, etc.)
  • Ability to perform site measurements and translate field conditions into accurate drawings
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and problem-solving abilities
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate across teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working on healthcare or federal/VA facility projects
  • Familiarity with VA Technical Information Library (TIL) and related design standards
  • Experience with ZLink or similar visualization/documentation platforms
  • Knowledge of FF&E planning, specification, and documentation
  • LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification or other relevant credentials
  • Experience supporting large, multi-building campuses or complex documentation projects
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Project and/or Microsoft Teams
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment

Responsibilities

  • Develop detailed plans, reflected ceiling plans, elevations, and visual presentations using AutoCAD, Revit, and other visualization tools (e.g., ZLink).
  • Analyze architectural drawings and create Furniture, Fixtures, and Equipment (FF&E) layouts, incorporating building systems, materials, traffic flow, and code requirements.
  • Interpret and review drawings for compliance with VA Technical Information LIbrary (TIL) standards and applicable codes.
  • Maintain and organize the Drawing Room, including project plans, binders, and digital documentation.
  • Update and manage drawing files across AutoCAD, Revit, and ZLink platforms.
  • Identify and resolve incomplete or inaccurate drawing information, coordinating with architects and leadership to ensure accuracy.
  • Document completed moves, renovations, and minor construction projects, ensuring updated as-built conditions are reflected in drawings.
  • Support project planning efforts, including: Move planning and “day-in-the-life” scenarios
  • Schedule creation and tracking
  • Participation in project meetings
  • Assist in maintaining documentation schedules and reporting progress to leadership.
