About The Position

As the Ministry of Forestry and Parks, we are responsible for fostering Alberta’s environmentally responsible forest management practices, including management of wildfires. Are you a strategic thinker with a passion for procurement, contract management, and operational excellence? Join our team as a Contract and Procurement Coordinator, where you will lead complex procurement initiatives, oversee a diverse portfolio of contracts and ensure the timely acquisition of critical goods and services. Your work will directly support operational readiness, financial accountability, and emergency response capabilities. Reporting to the Regional Services Manager, you will be responsible for the coordination and oversight of contracts and procurement activities across the assigned area. Working with a high degree of independence, you will provide expert advice, oversee contract performance, support audit and compliance activities and build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders. This role is ideal for a procurement professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and can balance strategic planning with operational delivery.

Requirements

  • University graduation in a related field such as Business and 2 years of progressively responsible experience in procurement, contract administration, financial administration, or related operations; or equivalent as described below.
  • Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of: 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.

  • Experience supporting audit and compliance reviews.
  • Experience developing or improving procurement processes, documentation, templates, or internal controls.
  • Experience using enterprise financial and procurement systems, including 1GX.
  • Professional procurement, supply chain, contract management, accounting, business, or related education and/or certification.

Responsibilities

  • Leading end to end procurement activities, including business cases, solicitations and contract execution.
  • Developing Requests for Proposals (RFPs), Requests for Quotes (RFQs), and other procurement documents aligned with operational needs.
  • Evaluating competitive bids and preparing evidence-based recommendations for decision-makers.
  • Coordinating emergency procurement activities to support operational readiness.
  • Managing contract and procurement records throughout the contract lifecycle.
  • Monitoring contract performance, deliverables, timelines, contract budgets, and schedules to ensure obligations are met.
  • Advising management and staff on procurement methods, contract amendments, extensions, and close-out activities.
  • Acting as a Sourcing Agent for large-scale and capital procurement initiatives within 1GX.
  • Negotiating specialty equipment rates within government procurement frameworks and delegated authorities.
  • Supporting financial analysis activities, including contract budget tracking, variance reporting, expenditure monitoring, and reconciliation.
  • Implementing internal controls to strengthen compliance, reduce risk, and support sound decision-making.
  • Supports audits and compliance reviews through accurate and complete documentation.
  • Providing strategic advice and guidance on contract risks, mitigation strategies, and procurement best practices.
  • Collaborating with vendors, contractors, finance teams, program areas, and external stakeholders to achieve contract objectives.
  • Identifying opportunities for process improvements and contributing to the development of procurement tools, templates, and procedures.
  • Analyzing feedback to enhance contract administration processes and operational efficiency.
