About The Position

GFT is seeking a Contract Administrator to fill a position within our Construction Services Group in Ottawa. This role follows a hybrid work model, requiring regular attendance at our Ottawa office but willing to travel to Montreal 3- 4 times a week. The Contract Administrator is a key hire to our Ottawa team. The Contract Administrator is responsible for ensuring construction and rehabilitation activities adhere to contract specifications, standards, and client expectations.

Requirements

  • Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in Contract Administration and Inspections.
  • Design experience is a strong asset.
  • Industrial building experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of OPSD/OPSS standards and construction staging.
  • Good understanding of Occupation H&S Act, the Construction Act, OPSS MUNI 100 General Conditions and Ontario Regulation 406/1excess soil management.
  • Proficient in the use of Builterra platform (Dailies, Progress Payment, Tendering)
  • Eng communication, documentation, and coordination skills
  • Recognized as eligible or active under MTO RAQS is a strong asset.

Responsibilities

  • Perform Contract Administration duties throughout all the phases of construction and rehabilitation ensuring adherence to contract specifications.
  • Act as the owner’s representative during construction with assistance from design engineer/s and field inspectors.
  • Prepare monthly progress payment certificates and issue Change Orders.
  • Review Contractor’s submissions including but not limited to; traffic control plans (in light of OTM Book 7), shop drawings, schedule, paving and concrete pour plans, watermain commissioning plan etc.
  • Coordinate with material testing firm to ensure all mix designs and specified materials are approved in advance of construction.
  • Attend pre-construction, pre-pave, pre-concrete pour meetings
  • Review and respond to contractor’s RFIs
  • Must be able to manage change on a fast-moving project and where necessary and achieve resolution in a timely manner.
  • Be a team player and comfortable with partnering principles and best practice.
  • Issue Certificate of Substantial Performance per Construction Act.
  • Develop necessary contractual responses in a timely manner with a goal of positioning the owner as a pro-active leader rather than reactive responder.
  • Occasional site visits to support site inspections.
  • Conduct surveillance and quality audits of contractors and subcontractors to verify compliance with project specifications, quality standards, and contractual requirements.
  • Monitor and assess Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) practices to ensure regulatory compliance, risk mitigation, and continuous improvement in field operations.
  • Train junior staff in inspections and contract administration.
