About The Position

The Contract Administrator II supports contract negotiations by negotiating complex payer negotiations, fee schedules, reconciling data, and ensuring accuracy and readiness for financial analysis and reporting. Evaluates risk and non-risk contractual arrangements between Carilion Clinic entities and third-party payors for the provision of healthcare services to members/patients. Analyzes all aspects of contract proposals, including pertinent language, terms, conditions, related financial reports, and other data to determine feasibility and conformity to Carilion’s goals and guidelines. Focused evaluation of documents to detect ambiguities, inaccuracies, omissions of essential terms, internal document conflicts, and to identify possible legal ramifications. Lead and support proposal preparation, contract negotiations, and administration of complex contracts. Financial and contractual compliance: comprehension and awareness of revenue recognition policies and key contractual terms. Manages internal customer and payer relationships to ensure successful contract implementation and operational effectiveness. Monitors and evaluates contract performance to determine necessity for amendments or contract extensions and compliance to contractual obligations. Notifies payers of all approved changes and requirements; notifies Carilion Clinic service areas of contractual changes. Negotiates contracts, drafts, and coordinates payor contracts, both directly and under supervision. In preparation for review and approval of senior management, converts agreements or agreement proposals into contract format, prepares amended documents to reflect necessary changes and/or alternatives. Responsible for pending contract management through good document controls. Works as a liaison between internal departments, including but not limited to, Legal to resolve contractual issues. Collaborates with internal and external legal department(s) and business personnel for contractual changes requested and/or contract interpretation. Handles a wide variety of confidential and time sensitive matters, and must be able to keep matters confidential Understanding of contract management and compliance requirements. Identifies contractual problems and advises appropriate action to ensure a satisfactory resolution. Build and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers and provide guidance, interpretation, and advice to other functional areas regarding contract matters. Provides leadership within the contract administrative team and provides input into performance appraisal. Assists heavily with new-employee orientation and provides guidance to coworkers on contracting area of specialty Manages contract performance and supports the development and implementation of value-based contract relationships in support of business strategies. Ability to adapt to changing work assignments and shifting priorities. Utilizes analytical skills to evaluate and compare contract terms and potential impact. Ability to interpret complex data sets and extract actionable insights to assist with decision support Performs comprehensive financial analysis to aid decision-making process, including cost-benefit analysis, revenue forecasting, and budget variance analysis.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, or Health Administration required or 4 years of relevant experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
  • Minimum of 2 years of progressive contract administration or related experience including negotiation and analytical responsibilities.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of contract management and compliance requirements.
  • Proficiency in PC-based applications.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities independently.
