About The Position

Operates and monitors the extrusion process, which is an integral procedure in the manufacturing of dried, formed products. These products are supplied to the kiln area where they are fired in kilns, producing ceramic products that meet the required specifications & quality standards.

Requirements

  • Must be able to successfully complete all required job training.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • 6 month manufacturing/warehousing experience or equivalent.
  • CRC Bronze or above.
  • Ability to read and comprehend work instructions.
  • Ability to communicate information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add and subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Responsibilities

  • Completes the GHCM (Green Honeycomb Cutting Machine) touch pad set-up; checks/resets the batch, work count, and total count settings located on the weigh batch indicator; and records the settings on the Continuous Extrusion Activities Log Sheet.
  • Performs established power-up/start-up procedures according to the work instructions.
  • Checks the temperature of the formed product once per batch with a digital thermometer.
  • Obtains a relay sample once the material through the die is stable; and measures on the optibel.
  • Removes and cleans machine components such as dies, masking plates, spacers, etc.; and cleans belt feeder and work area, as required.
  • Enters process data into the company’s information systems.
  • Maintains the extruder information board with data gathered from the die travel ticket and from the actual tooling in use.
  • Removes and tags any formed material exhibiting contamination; and moves material to the confinement area.
  • Collects ao into designated totes, following established procedures for collecting, packing and palletizing.
  • Performs necessary change-over procedures according to established work instructions.
  • Records all die adjustments during a production run onto the Die Adjustment Sheet.
  • Works safely by avoiding forklifts; staying clear of forklift doors; using personnel doors when entering or exiting the buildings; and safely using overhead hoists.
  • Participates in PM (Preventive Maintenance), MMOL (Machine Maintenance Operator Leader), and G5S (Global 5S: Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain) activities as needed.
  • Follows all EMS (Environmental Management System) procedures, including the disposal of waste and used materials.
