About The Position

USAA's internship program offers a chance to showcase skills and gain real-life experience to jump-start a career in technology. They deliver innovative solutions to business challenges and build relationships in a collaborative culture. This position is based in San Antonio, TX. The intern will support their team in designing, developing, and deploying Large Learning Models for production environments, aligning with USAA's technology strategy and potentially using AI tools and automation.

Requirements

Pursuing a degree from an accredited college or university, with an anticipated graduation date between September 2027 and May 2028.
Most interns participate in the summer between their junior and senior years.
Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
Foundational understanding of Python
Foundational understanding of Large Language Models (LLMs)
Foundational understanding of Prompt Engineering
Foundational understanding of SQL and database concepts
Foundational understanding of problem-solving and analytical thinking
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Demonstrated leadership through coursework, projects, student organizations, employment, or community involvement.
Must not require immigration support (i.e., H-1B, TN, STEM OPT Training Plans, etc.) now or in the future.

Nice To Haves

Experience building production AI or machine learning applications.
AI Fluency
Experience integrating AI into enterprise systems.
Coursework or project experience involving software development.
Understanding of Agile development concepts.
Interest in AI-assisted development and emerging technologies.

Responsibilities

Design, test, and optimize prompts for LLMs and generative AI applications
Contribute to AI workflows, agentic AI solutions, and prompt orchestration to automate business processes
Partner with business leaders to translate business problems into AI enabled solutions
Evaluate AI outputs, measure quality, and continuously refine prompt performance
Design and enforce prompt guardrails to ensure compliant solutions
Research emerging AI models, prompting techniques, and agent frameworks to continuously improve AI capabilities
