About The Position

Dixie Technical College is hiring a part-time Content Writer/Journalist for its Marketing & Communications team. The role creates engaging written and video content for social media, the college website, email, video, and local and regional media. The writer finds and tells stories about students, alumni, employees, programs, employer partners, and community partners, helping prospective students understand the opportunities available at Dixie Tech.

The position reports to the Marketing Director and works daily with the marketing team. It also involves regular interaction with students, alumni, employees, employers, and community partners for interviews and events, and occasional interaction with local media. The position is on campus only in St. George, Utah. Pay is $24 per hour, for up to 28 hours per week. No benefits are provided beyond hourly pay.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Excellent writing, editing, interviewing, and storytelling skills.
• Ability to write professional news articles and press releases for media distribution.
• Creative, curious, and able to identify good stories.
• Understanding of social media and digital content.
• Comfortable speaking and interviewing people on camera.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods while covering campus events and interviews.
• Ability to bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and climb stairs.
• Ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 20 pounds.
• Employment is subject to a criminal background check and drug testing.

Responsibilities

• Find and develop stories from across Dixie Technical College.
• Interview students, alumni, employees, employers, and community partners.
• Write articles, news stories, and press releases for distribution to local and regional media.
• Write social media posts, website content, emails, and video scripts.
• Conduct and participate in on-camera interviews.
• Assist with short-form video and social media content.
• Cover college events and activities.
• Work with the Marketing & Communications team to develop engaging content.
• Edit and proofread content for accuracy, clarity, and consistency.
• Comply with Dixie Tech policies and procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
