About The Position

The Content Strategist role exists to clearly communicate and promote The Salvation Army in Canada’s international work and the impact of its International Development programs. By developing and implementing strategic, engaging content, the role helps tell the story of how these programs support communities globally. This contribution increases awareness, strengthens engagement with stakeholders and supporters, and advances The Salvation Army in Canada’s mission and international development goals.

Requirements

  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred
  • Is legally entitled to work according to provincial/territorial legislations and regulations.
  • Completing/Completed a University/College degree in Communications, graphic design or a related field.
  • At least 3 - 6 months of experience working in digital marketing, communications or advertising.
  • Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to clearly structure and convey messages.
  • Proven ability to write well-organized, engaging content with a high level of accuracy and clarity.
  • Creative mindset combined with strong attention to detail in content development and design.
  • Proficient in Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, and Acrobat, as well as Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive working relationships.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while managing time and priorities effectively.
  • Collaborative team player with good organizational skills and a clear understanding of, and commitment to, The Salvation Army’s international mission.

Responsibilities

  • Support strategic and operational marketing and media initiatives for the International Development Department in collaboration with the Resource Media Coordinator.
  • Create engaging digital and written content for social media platforms and published materials to enhance visibility and reach.
  • Design promotional and fundraising materials that effectively communicate campaign messages and program impact.
  • Contribute to the development and execution of major campaigns, including Brighter Futures, Under the Tree, and future International Development initiatives.
  • Develop creative presentations and ideas that engage the public and inspire support for International Development ministry work.
  • Enhance newsletters and communication platforms by introducing improvements to content, layout, and audience engagement.
  • Provide technical assistance to support the daily operations and communications needs of the International Development Office.
  • Administer clerical, administrative, and other assigned duties to ensure smooth and efficient departmental operations.
