About The Position

The Content Specialist will have a deep understanding of the Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA), APA style, Title II ADA and WCAG 2.1 accessibility guidelines, and special education. The specialist will be responsible for consulting with partner teams throughout Tennessee who develop content for the Tennessee Technical Assistance Network (TN-TAN). Through a grant funded by the Tennessee Department of Education (TDOE), TN-TAN provides free resources and technical assistance to school districts across the state of Tennessee. The specialist will consult with partners to provide guidance and ensure that all content is created according to TDOE expectations and guidelines as set forth in the TDOE Style Guide. The specialist will communicate with the CLEE Associate Director, Project Manager, and/or partners daily to provide consultation and feedback regarding resources and documentation. Technical expertise in the use of MS Office, Smartsheet, SharePoint, and Teams is required for this position. Knowledge of and ability to provide training in Title II ADA and WCAG guidelines is required for this position.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree (Special Education or related field)
• At least 2 years of experience in working with programs involving content management or service to students with disabilities
• Ability to communicate skillfully and professionally both orally and in writing, including strengths in client relations and presentation skills (online and in person).
• Ability/strengths in developing collaborative relationships with a diverse group of education professionals.
• Ability to provide coaching, consultation, or direction as needed to foster collaboration amongst professionals in order to meet project goals.
• Evidence of a well-rounded knowledge base in special education: programs and services; and rules and regulations.
• Demonstrate knowledge of and possess strong understanding of APA and TDOE style guidelines.
• Demonstrate knowledge of and possess strong understanding of Section 508 and Title II ADA accessibility guidelines and WCAG 2.1 accessibility guidelines.
• Evidence of well-rounded knowledge in common professional and educational technology tools (Teams, Zoom, Smartsheet, Google Suite, etc.).
• Must demonstrate skills in delivering trainings to project partners related to best practices in APA style, TDOE style, and Title II ADA guidelines.
• Must demonstrate skills in and an aptitude for quickly learning and innovating with new technology tools.
• Technical expertise in the use of MS Office, Smartsheet, SharePoint, and Teams is required for this position.
• Knowledge of and ability to provide training in Title II ADA and WCAG guidelines is required for this position.

Responsibilities

• Provide content review of training and professional development materials that are fully compliant with TDOE style guide, APA style, WCAG 2.1, and ADA guidelines and ready for dissemination and website upload. Content includes training materials; synchronous and asynchronous learning modules (various LMS platforms); webinars; and MS Word, PPT, and Excel documents.
• Utilize deep knowledge of special education and IDEA in the areas of special education instructional programming, special education behavioral programming, tiered intervention supports, IEP development, assistive technology, and school and family engagement to provide feedback and guide state-wide partners on training and professional development materials.
• Provide consultation and on-going training to TN-TAN partners and content developers in the development and submission of project-specific training materials using a variety of software tools and formats, including Smartsheet, SharePoint, MS Office, and LMS platforms.
• Provide training on best practices in APA style and achieving full compliance with Title II ADA accessibility guidelines.
• Provide training on a regular basis on the following topics: running accessibility checkers, color contrast, alt text guidance, outline view, reading order, video captioning, etc.
• Provide consultation and regular collaboration with TDOE leadership, internal team members, and project partners and stakeholders to align efforts, create strategic plans and goals, and improve processes to coordinate the provision of technical assistance to districts, educators, students, and families across the state of Tennessee with the goal of improving educational outcomes for students with disabilities.
