•$60,000 - $71,500•Remote

About The Position

The Content & Communications Lead is a full-time role at All Hands & Hearts, based in the U.S. The position sets the direction for how the organization communicates with donors, supporters, partners, and the public, and manages the blog, email, and social channels. Its storytelling centers affected communities and supports awareness, engagement, and fundraising. During disaster activations, the Lead supports response communications in close coordination with Development, Operations, and Communications leadership, delivering accurate, dignified, timely content across channels. Between activations, the Lead manages the editorial calendar and maintains a pipeline of ready-to-use content in collaboration with the Multimedia Content Producer and Visual Content Creator. The role develops organizational messaging and brand voice; produces and edits written and visual stories; oversees blog, email, and social content; and coordinates field content during disaster responses. It operates in a home-office environment, with travel up to 25% of the time and possible communal living while on program. Response periods may involve high-stress post-disaster settings and flexible, non-traditional hours, including evenings and weekends.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience in writing, photography, videography, or multimedia storytelling.
  • Ability to produce high-quality written and visual content under tight deadlines and in challenging environments.
  • Experience gathering stories directly from the field and turning them into emotionally engaging, human-centered narratives.
  • Proficiency with content management and distribution tools, including WordPress/Gutenberg CMS, ActiveCampaign or a similar email service provider, and major social media platforms.

  • Ability to produce, edit, and package visual stories optimized for web and social media.
  • Experience using design and publishing tools such as Canva and Adobe Creative Suite, and collaboration tools such as Google Workspace, Slack, Zeck, and Notion.
  • Strong organization and flexibility in managing multiple priorities and balancing planned content pipelines with rapid-response needs.
  • Ability to work in both structured content-planning and fast-moving, unpredictable environments.
  • Cross-cultural sensitivity and ability to listen, observe, and engage respectfully in diverse settings.
  • Willingness to shift into newsroom mode during major disasters, conflict events, or rapid-response activations, including evenings and weekends; the role follows real-world events rather than fixed hours.
  • Use AI tools as an assistant for grammar, structure, ideation, and research, but not to write drafts; content must remain authentic and human-voiced.
  • Comfort with flexible, non-traditional working hours during response periods, including evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time and live in a communal environment while on program.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Creative Writing, or a related field is preferred; equivalent professional experience in storytelling, photography, videography, or content creation will also be considered.
