About The Position

Hebrew Public is building connections with creative, talented, and student-centered musicians and educators for future Contemporary Music Teacher opportunities at Philadelphia Hebrew Public (PHP) in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This evergreen posting is intended to develop relationships with prospective candidates; applications will be reviewed as staffing needs arise, and the Talent Team may contact candidates whose skills and experience fit future opportunities. The Contemporary Music Teacher inspires students across multiple grade levels to enjoy making music, develop instrumental skills, and build confidence through hands-on, performance-based instruction. Students learn keyboards, drums, and guitar and practice performing together in small bands and musical ensembles. Instruction connects with students’ interests in hip-hop, R&B, pop, and other contemporary genres, emphasizing practical musicianship, rhythm, collaboration, improvisation, and performance rather than traditional band or orchestral instruction or a primary focus on music theory. PHP serves students from more than 40 Philadelphia zip codes, primarily Black and Brown students, and aims to help them become global citizens through rigorous academics, strong relationships, and a globally minded education. Hebrew Public is a secular organization welcoming candidates from all backgrounds. Hebrew proficiency is not required, and candidates from traditionally underrepresented groups are strongly encouraged to apply. Teachers receive coaching, collaborative planning, professional development, and certification support. The compensation model recognizes teacher skill, growth, and classroom impact. After their first year, eligible teachers may qualify for annual salary increases of 5% to 10% based on classroom impact, without additional graduate coursework.
