About The Position

We are hiring immediately for a Union Container / Chassis / Trailer Mechanic to join our team working at the Norfolk Southern Pittsburgh, PA rail terminal in a recession-proof industry! This is an entry-level position with no prior chassis maintenance experience required. We are looking for individuals with at least 1 year of basic mechanical work experience who are eager to learn and grow. On-the-Job Training (OJT) is provided. The successful candidate will be responsible for inspecting and analyzing malfunctions, completing repairs, and efficiently rebuilding chassis & trailers.

Requirements

At least 1 year of basic mechanical work experience.
Mechanical abilities and hands-on skills.
Individuals comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions.
Someone able to stay on their feet for most of the day.
Motivated team members ready to work with purpose on trailers, containers, and chassis.
Valid Driver's License, and dependable transportation.
Ability to pass all pre-employment screening requirements (drug, and Physical Strength test).
Strong problem-solving skills.
Must be able to provide your own tools.
Must have the ability to acquire your own tools over time.

Nice To Haves

No prior chassis maintenance experience is required.
Mechanical & Welding experience preferred but not required.
Prior experience working on cars, changing tires or welding would be great but is not necessary.
Knowledge of mechanical tools and wants to learn more about truck, trailer, container and chassis maintenance.

Responsibilities

Responsible for the daily inspection of all trailers and chassis to ensure equipment is meeting safety standards under Federal Highway Administration standards.
Able to dismantle, repair and reassemble landing gears, wheel axles, and brakes, this may include welding broken parts.
Ensures the electrical system is running efficiently.
Accurately and legibly complete work orders.
Completes all work orders in a timely and consistent manner.
Technicians are required to wear Personal Protection Equipment (PPE), such as hearing protection, safety toe boots, safety glasses, a protective hard hat, and welding leathers & goggles, when applicable.
Maintains a clean and safe work environment.
All other duties as assigned.
