About The Position

The Consumer Sales Specialist II is a phone-based, consultative sales professional responsible for independently managing more complex consumer lending and deposit relationships within the Consumer Lending and Member Growth departments. This role builds upon foundational sales and application ownership skills and is expected to demonstrate stronger judgment, autonomy, and consistency in delivering positive member outcomes. Through inbound and outbound interactions, the Consumer Sales Specialist II conducts in-depth financial needs discovery, guides members through tailored consumer loan and deposit solutions, and owns applications end-to-end in partnership with underwriting and processing teams. This role proactively identifies opportunities to save members money, optimize product usage, and deepen relationships while delivering an exceptional virtual branch experience. The Consumer Sales Specialist II serves as a model for effective sales behaviors and may provide informal mentoring and support to less-tenured specialists without direct supervisory responsibility.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of experience within a financial institution or lending environment, including at least 2 years in a consumer lending, financial services, or consultative sales role
  • 1+ year of experience working in a call center or phone-based sales role
  • 1+ year of successful performance as a Consumer Sales Specialist I (or equivalent role)
  • Demonstrated mastery of required skills and behaviors
  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience
  • NMLS registration required
  • Strong ability to identify and respond to member needs and consistently recommend appropriate Westerra products and services
  • Proven consultative sales skills with the ability to manage more complex and nuanced member situations
  • Demonstrated knowledge of consumer lending products, loan policies, and procedures
  • Working knowledge of real estate financing and HELOC-related products
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Proven attention to detail with a high level of accuracy
  • Solid problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal day-to-day supervision while escalating appropriately
  • Strong understanding of the consumer lending business line and operating environment
  • Ability to handle difficult, but not typically highly complex, issues with professionalism and sound judgment

Responsibilities

  • Independently manage complex consumer sales conversations across lending and deposit products using a consultative approach
  • Conduct deeper financial needs discovery to recommend more customized consumer solutions
  • Own consumer loan applications throughout the full lifecycle, including issue resolution and coordination with underwriting and processing
  • Apply sound judgment to navigate non-standard scenarios, recommend alternatives, and resolve application challenges
  • Educate members on loan terms, pricing, and product features to support confident decision-making
  • Consistently meet or exceed assigned sales, production, and service goals
  • Identify and act on opportunities to deepen relationships through cross-sell and upsell
  • Serve as an informal mentor and resource by modeling strong sales and application ownership behaviors
  • Utilize performance data and underwriting concepts to support continuous improvement
  • Adhere to all Credit Union policies, procedures, and applicable regulations
