About The Position

Under general supervision, this role reviews and underwrites consumer loan applications in accordance with credit union lending policies, regulatory requirements, and established underwriting authority. The position evaluates member creditworthiness, financial information, and risk factors to make sound lending decisions while providing exceptional service and support to internal and external members. It contributes to departmental goals by promoting operational efficiency, compliance, collaboration, and a positive member experience.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in consumer lending, underwriting or a related field.

Nice To Haves

  • Indirect auto lending experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews and analyzes consumer loan applications to assess creditworthiness and ensure compliance with credit union lending policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Evaluates credit reports, income, collateral, debt ratios, and fraud indicators to make sound lending decisions within assigned authority limits while maintaining accurate documentation in applicable systems.
  • Reviews and clears loan stipulations by analyzing supporting documentation, including proof of income, identification, Social Security verification, proof of residence, and other required records, to ensure completeness, accuracy, and compliance with lending requirements.
  • Verifies document authenticity and identifies discrepancies, fraud indicators, or altered documents before final loan approval and funding.
  • Provides professional, efficient service to internal and external members by responding to questions about loan decisions, policies, and underwriting guidelines.
  • Communicates effectively with branches, departments, dealerships, and leadership to support service excellence and promote credit union products and services when appropriate.
  • Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state regulations, credit union policies, and Bank Secrecy Act requirements.
  • Maintains current knowledge of lending regulations and identifies potential fraud or risk concerns throughout the loan review process.
  • Supports departmental efficiency by identifying opportunities to improve workflows, enhance procedures, and strengthen operational effectiveness.
  • Assists with departmental reporting, quality initiatives, and the achievement of established productivity and service standards.
  • Supports Altura Credit Union’s mission, core values, strategic initiatives, and stakeholder philosophy through professionalism and teamwork.
  • Maintains regular attendance, completes required training, and performs additional duties or projects as assigned by management.
